I can't sell my car for what I think I should be getting

the original thread topic was and should read :Camaro resale in the toilet?: which I guess was too "offensive" to the mods here, I guess the truth hurts that such a "in demand" car has depreciated so much in a few months...................

*Disclaimer* I love my car, it is not abused, I am not disappointed in it, nothing like that, I simply have decided I want to make a major change in my life and me and my wife want to move to the west coast and I need the money, I will not sell the car dirt cheap and worst case I keep it and enjoy it.............................

I listed my car for sale and havent gotten a single response, not a offer, nothing-

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41665

very disappointing for a car thats supposed to be so "in demand"

the car is mint with 1600 miles on it, never driven in rain, never smoked in, never eaten or drank anything in it, hell its never even been left unsupervised in a parking lot, only 93 octane run through it ect ect

the car was $37k without tax (over $40k out the door) and it has over $1000 worth of upgrades and I am asking $35k

just food for thought for those of you who might want to sell in the short term

For $35k someone could still buy a new one. That might be why. Plus the economy is still in the toilet.

you couldnt buy the same car for $35k if the sticker was $37k in fact it would be more since they have back up sensors now................

the economy might be in the toilet but theres alot of new camaro owners on this site and many more potential owners

You've got to be kidding.

Go buy ANY new car and try to sell it for even close to what you paid a few months later. Maybe 3 months ago when the wait was huge you had a shot at that. But I can tell you for $2,000, I'm buying all new from a dealer. That's what you are up against. There are a lot of dealers selling at sticker.

Resale is not in the toilet. It's right where I would expect if not better. It's just not where you want it.

Retitle the thread please. "I can't sell my car for what I think I should be getting"

Also, it is a LOT easier to get dealer financing than financing to buy from an individual.

honestly i wouldn't spend $35k for something used unless i was getting a real good deal when i can buy brand new for not that much more or the same price.

Yup, I agree. It is a USED car now. At best I would think private sale would be around $32k, maybe even less.

I agree with all of the above.

also...you're in Buffalo...it'll probably be snowing there in a few weeks. If it were spring you have an easier time. You could always try your luck on ebay.

Why are you trying to sell it? There are brand new ones sitting in dealerships around here. (Boston area). Any one that can pay your asking price can afford a brand new one. Why would they buy used. The only way that I would have bought used was if I found one that had been DEEPLY discounted. I paid less for my 1SS, Boston Accoustics, polished wheels and A6 than you are asking for a used one.

Key word is that YOU think it is worth more, but the reality is ITS not. Rule of depr is that once the car leaves off the dealer lot it loses 25-30% its value in that moment. SO it's not worth 35k just because you think it is. Sorry the truth hurts, if you have to sell it fast get what you can get and move on. Otherwise don't sale and hurt your ownself.

Business is always simple never complex sometimes you profit, break-even or take a loss. Your looking closer to the last one.

We are seeing more and more dealers with cars on the lots sitting and we are seeing more and more dealer finally willing to "man-up" and take the discounts that are applicable to this car.

Also, you've made modifications to your car...that may or may not be what a customer wants. Personally, when I start seeing modifications, I wonder if the car has been abused. Not that you have abused your car, but its what I've seen as a technician... For example-custom hood---was it hit in the front is my first reaction. Typically a modification is a no-return item UNLESS it is something done by a dealer-think Yenko or Hennessey. Something installed by a local speedshop might be worth something to a local person that knows the speedshop...to a non-local it won't be usually as they don't know the quality of the install.

Good luck with your sale, but I'm afraid you're experiencing what every new car buyer does...depreciation. It isn't unusual see 20% depreciation in the first year, no matter what the mileage is. I agree with the other posters...if you had sold this car when demand was huge and supply was low...you could have gotten window sticker or above even with mods.

My local dealer has two Camaros on the lot now...both of them sitting...one has been there three weeks, the other a week. No real lookers from what I hear...plenty of tire-kickers.
