KNOCK SENSOR CODES PLEASE HELP

PROBLEM SOLVED! Solution on post #21

About a month ago I received two codes, P0330, and P06B7. Knock sensor malfunction bank 2 and Knock Sensor Performance Bank Two. I took it to the shop and they replaced both knock sensors, and found a frayed wire harness but on Bank 1’s wire harness....(Weird I know.) bot the car back and codes were gone. Drove for about 10 miles and CEL came back on. This time P0325 (Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction Bank 1). Decided to take a look my self and could not find any frayed wires, loose connectors on bank one but noticed Bank 2’s wiring harness had been spliced and the wires were switched. I respliced them (blue to blue and grey to grey) and surprisingly enough. The P0325 Bank 1 code went away but shortly after I got P0330 BANK TWO AGAIN???? I’m lost and confused. Anybody have any ideas or had similar problems?

I would try to get a hold of an ECU wiring diagram and do some signal tracing between the knock sensor harness and ECU connectors. Chances are you have a break somewhere.

@co14camaro how would I go about testing for breaks with a mulitimeter?

You use the ohm setting to check the connection between two ends of a wire connection.

Update, I found the two wires going from ECU to the bank 2 knock sensor; about 3 inches out i cut the wires and spliced on a pigtail connector and knock sensor to make sure I could see everything was connected properly without any cuts or shorts in the wires, still getting P0330. So is my last option a bad ECU? Chevy dealer near me will reflash my ECU for $140, would reflashing do any good or should I just go ahead and buy a whole new ECU and get it reflashed?

Cutting and splicing a knock sensor connection is not a good idea. It can throw off the resistance values the ECU expects to see. I'd try to find a used engine harness before dumping the cash on a new ECU.

There’s no way to properly repair the wiring harness without jeopardizing the integrity and messing up the resistance? I used good butt connectors and heat wrap to make sure it was snug.

Butt connectors are garbage and totally mess up the ohm values. your best bet is to solder the wires and try to keep them the same length as OEM.

I’m ordering the entire wiring harness from a GM parts website, hopefully it doesn’t end up being the ECM although with the stimulus check it’ll be a lil easier

Update: got the wiring harness install, still getting p0325 but p0330 went away, this week I’m gonna try one last time replacing the knock sensor (maybe got a bad one from the store) and if that doesn’t work I’m going to see a Chevy dealer to reflash my ECM. Any other ideas?

I know knock sensors can be tested.
Whats your mileage?
You running 87? Good quality higher octane gas causes less issues for sure.
Time for plugs? Maybe something actually is causing it to ping and retard timing.
Do an upper cleaning recently? Built up carbon will do weird things.

I have 104k miles, running premium fuel when this whole thing started to mitigate knock, but I don’t hear any knock the engine runs fine. What’s the best way to do an upper cleaning? Just replaced plugs and coils.

You would likely never hear the knock since the computers lightning fast at adjustment to keep from blowing holes in pistons on an 11.5:1 (!) compression motor.
Some swear by walnut blasting with the intake off but i just do a little CRC upper cleaning before every oil change. Youtube a vid to see how it works and good luck.

I keep thinking theres a flow chart to trouble shoot the knock code issues too.
Maybe in the manual (which i don't have.)
Anybody?
