Air Bag Service Light On

My Air Bag Service Light ( on the dash) just recently came on.

Since I have 2 of the same kind of Camaros ( 2015 1LT Convertible )
These are the steps I have already taken:

- Swapped out the Air Bag Passenger Module ( under the seat)
- Swapped out the Air Bag Passenger Sensor Mat ( in the seat )
Since the Air Bag Service Light was still on, I swapped out the complete passenger seat , in case something was wrong with the harness under the seat…

The “Air Bag Service Light” on the dash is still on but the waring light inside the car on the roof shows just “ passenger air bag “
in the other camaro the waring light inside the car on the roof shows “ passenger air bag OFF”

Dos somebody have an idea what it could be?

Here the pictures to the issue:

Sounds like it is time to use a code reader that checks the air bag trouble codes.

Without a code reader it’s a guessing game. About $70-100 on Amazon.

Update..
I have borrowed a better diagnostic tool, which showed me following Errors ( unfortunately without error codes)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jaa...ew?usp=sharing

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jaa...ew?usp=sharing

In the mean time, the A/C Compressor stopped working ( clutch not engaging ) and there is only hot air blowing out the vents. That might have triggered the HAVAC controls module error !?

No codes for the restraint module? Our cars have at least a Diagnostic Unit on the air bag system. I don't know if that reports back to the BCM. With the BCM and HVAC modules both having problems, I would start with checking grounds since they may share the same ground point. Really though you may need to step up even more for a different scan tool that can get you further information. Without actual codes, you will have trouble fixing your problem. It likely will be easier to get professional help.

In the Autel to the right of where it says fault there is an arrow.
tap the arrow and it will bring you into that module then you can read the codes stored.

Quick up date….

I had somebody else hook up his diagnostic tool…
He Said the SRS system might have to be reset and that could also fix the ac problem.
.. will be back for more updates.

Yes, just pull the Air Bag fuses, on the left of instrument panel. Leave out 30 min. , then re install. This will re boot the system.
Tech did this on my car in 2010, did the trick.

Wow @TooCool5 thank you … right on time.. I was going to drop off the car at Chevi tomorrow and already calculated $220 for diagnostic and + $30 to pay up for the reset costs.

I will get back here to day for an update.

@TooCool5 thank you for the advice! I took the fuse out and left it out for a while … while the car was sitting .. also drove a couple of miles without the fuse … unfortunately that was not it… the Airbag Service light is till on.

So I brought the car to the Chevy dealer ship / service and they said the Air Bag Control Module has to be replaced. I see that these Modules are not to expensive, even though they I might have to buy it new and not used. From what I see on the internet, these parts have to be programmed.. but I’m not sure. Depending on how hard it is to get to it, I might take the part out of my other camaro and replace it to see if it solves the problem.

Ok, so I took the Camaro to the Chevy shop and the diagnostic determined, that the module is not communication and therefor proberbly broken. The quoted me $1200 for it, but I see there are $50-$100 used and maybe $200-300 new so I will buy a Module online , the problem is only the dealership can program them since they have to be paid with the actually car which it goes in to.

I will keep you guys updated…

This and other common Camaro problems that I’m determine to fix myself I will update here:

Problem Solved for $0

What was listed as for $1200 Air Bag module replacement, turns out to be just a lose connection … Even though the Connector is double secured by a latch / switch, it was still lose inside the middle console so a quick click soled the $1200 problem …
