Wife Loves the Hill Assist..

My wife loves the Hill Assist on her new 1LT/RS.. Me, not so much.. But I enjoy driving her car.. The manual is really refined and the clutch feels awesome.. Great job GM!.. Anyone else likes the Hill Assist??

Pretty sure she's the only one. At least the first one I've heard of.

Holds the brake on an M6 when on an incline. Provides a tendency to stall the car when trying to override it. Very unpopular. Another GM fail since you can't turn it off. You can replace the yaw sensor from a pre-2013 or an auto though if you don't mind ripping out your console.

It drives me crazy.. I like control and rhythm.. But I just put my foot on the brake and double clutch and it goes off.. But it comes on at the most awkward times.. I don't get it.. I can be on small hill and it comes on, and sometimes a hill that is steeper and nothing... Maybe my wife has mastered it because I don't know how to use it

I think its not very consistent when it comes on. It doesnt always activate its self on a hill..and I personally like a little roll back before taking off... Cars are getting too soft.. other than that its a great smooth M6.. very enjoyable to drive..Makes me wish I got my SS in a manual..

When I had an LS I hated hill assist.

Now I have an SS and I hate the 1 -> 4 shift thing.

The reason I drive a manual instead of an automatic is that I want better control. I don't want the car thinking for me when it comes to gears.

Hill start assist is actually a good idea, and it would be awesome if it were activated by touching a button. Then if you needed it it would be there. The problem with the hill start assist on these cars is that sometimes you're on a 2% grade and it inexplicably decides to hold the brakes on for you causing you to nearly stall. Do the LS cars have launch control? If not GM should just replace the double tap t/c button with engage hill start and make everyone happy.

Plus that way you could do it to your friends from the passenger seat on flat ground when they aren't paying attention. It's a win-win.

I consider myself a seasoned manual trans guy, but I appreciate hill assist for a couple of reasons. Can I live without it? Yes, and I did so for a long time.

It helps when parking in a really tight parallel space on a hill (think crowded city street). When the difference of an inch can mean making contact with the car in front of, or behind you, hill assist really helps eliminate any unwanted rolling.

I also had this in a Jeep I used to own. It was useful offroad. If you got into a really tight spot, it would prevent rolling backward off an obstacle, or rolling into a tree, rock, etc. That's what steel bumpers are for I suppose, but HSA was something that was nice to have.

I almost didn't buy my new 1LS because of HSA due to how terrible the same feature worked on a 2012 Jeep but the GM implementation is pretty good. On the Jeep I could never figure out when the system was going to release but the Camaro is sort of natural feeling. It's never been a problem.
