Vvt tuning

Does nobody know how to tune a damn VVT cam? Lmao I’ve had my car two different places, mods in sig. Car made 401/406 at one place, another 406/397 both dynojets. Granted the converter was unlocked. GPI is a long ways away from me for a dyno tune 15+ hours. You think I would be better off letting Ryan remote tune it for me? This is starting to get expensive at $500+ a pop.

I’m close enough for a dyno tune, but he does remote tunes as well. He’s got tons of experience with VVT. He tuned mine and a friends car, and we’re both very happy with his work.

In person he made at least 6-7 dyno pulls to get the timing and fuel just right before he was happy with it. Then he made another 4-5 pulls on the street for shift points and driveability. I went back for an update after adding a stall converter and repeated the street tune. Keep that in mind as it’ll take a little longer to remote tune as you will need to data log after each tweak and adjustment, load a new file and data log again.

I'm not sure how close Mechanicsville, MD is to Gettysburg, PA, but Jeremy Formato of Fasterproms is coming up again soon for tuning and he's GREAT with LS engines. I'm considering driving back to PA for him to retune my car when I install my VVT cam. Checkout http://fasterproms.net/ to get in touch with him.

Good luck.

I paid a guy $500 and he did a MAF only tune. No trans tuning and no VVE. Cold starts crank too long. Until warm it surges and stalls a lot.

Been trying for 3 months to tune it myself with help from YouTube and a buddy.

It’s a lot better now, but still not tuned VVE, cold start, etc., yet.

Texas Speed camshafts come with a VVT table so you don't have to make adjustments to it. If that is a TSP cam shoot me a PM and I'll get you a vvt table we developed off the engine dyno!

The car runs good and smooth, it’s just definitely lacking in the power department from others I’ve seen on here. Im talking like -40 -50 whp

Not sure what was going on there, but I've seen him work wonders on a number of cars including mine.

Ryan remote tuned mine when I installed the camshaft and remote tuned it a second time when I installed the supercharger. He does an awesome job, I'm very pleased.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Mine was not strong until me and my buddy started working on the tune.

There was a lot to do on the trans tuning. It was flaring a lot on upshifts and shifting slow. It was losing a lot of ET and power on that alone.

Then he had too much timing in some areas creating knock retard and not enough in others. That was losing us some power.

It still has issues. After about 5,600 rpm's, the power dips off, but the cam is good to 6,600 (it'll make power to 6,800 via TSP's own dyno videos).

My friend thinks that's due to the expected torq and VE being out of whack. He says when all that goes wonky, the car will actually start to shut the throttle body. That would explain why my dyno graph dips down at 5,600 rpm's.

I just can't seem to fail the MAF and get a good log to tune VVE because it keeps going in to reduced power mode. When it does that, it barely moves under its own power. Not fun when it happens pulling out in traffic or on the freeway at 70 mph.

Dyno operator left off early and did not log tq for some reason. But here is my dyno pulls....

TSP VVT 3.2 cam dyno at flywheel is 2nd picture. Note where power maxes out. Based on that, my guess is I should be near 500 whp peak because I have heads, too....

Stop wasting time and go through GPI and have them tune it. Ryan will do you right. They made the cam and know what they are doing.

I'm wondering if I need a phaser limiter for my cam install? It is .500 stock lift but longer duration at mid 220's @50. The stock can is 197/201@50
