Vortech V3 Supercharger
Hey all how's it going. So i'm looking for a part for my V3 Supercharger on a 2011 Camaro RS. I believe it's called a smooth idler pulley. There's two of them and one of them seized and shredded my serpentine belt so i'm looking for that part too. I called Vortech and they said they only make the headunit not all the other parts and told me to call OverKill motorsports but I guess that's just one dude in Canada and there's no phone number. So I'm wondering if anyone has any information and where I could acquire either of these parts. Thanks in advance.

If no other way to find it, you should be able to measure the pulley and find it in a catalog to match.
For example the Gates idler pulleys are at the end of this catalog. https://www.gates.com/content/dam/ga...12020_2016.pdf Last edited by gtstorey; 04-27-2021 at 02:35 PM. Reason: spelling |

You need the outer diameter to be close, although you can get by with a little difference in most cases. The width needs to be very close or exact judging from your picture. Inner diameter needs to be exact to match the mounting point of the existing pulley. And of course yours is flanged.

Can you unbolt the damaged pulleys? If so, unbolt them and take them to your local Auto Parts store. They should be able to fix you up.

Can't get the seized one out but I suppose I could unbolt the undamaged one, I believe it's the same exact size as the other one.

I may have the the outer pulley for you, I will check tonight. I know for sure I have a ton of the internal bearings if youd want as I bought them as extras to keep on hand incase this happened when I had this style setup. I had little luck finding the external ones from a 3rd party company, but I talked to ipf a while back and they told me the bearings they use since they have certain rpm and load ratings

See (in particular) post #81 in this old thread. Lots of useful info throughout this post. I ordered the the standard size ceramic bearing mentioned and used it for some time before I sold this car (stupid is as stupid does!), without any issue. Also surprised alot of 5th Gen Camaro SS's and 5.0 Stangs while I kept it.

Hey, since I've got the attention of some folks in the IPF population, I thought I might try to track down my 2010 LLT . Last I saw it had Nevada temp tags (I assumed headed for Vegas) after my "friend" that I sold it to for a song, traded it in for a Chevy SUV!
I've still got IPF's tuner with a killer tune from ARNO in Germany- the Bosch chip guru that set this whole supercharged V6 idea in motion. The handheld tuner (not Arno), is still married to the car's ECU and contains both modified and stock tune. It's not of any value to me anymore... So if anyone has a clue how to access the enclosed tune/info, you are welcome to it. The shop that designed and installed the IPF system had a great many capable people working there but unfortunately were unable to anticipate the negative effect supercharging will have on ANY aftermarket cats (even expensive, presumably good ones like SOLO). The end result was an undiagnosed total occlusion (all plugged up) exhaust and a ruined engine. Over the course of 6 months without a car through the winter, they were able to get a new motor in and S/C installed with the prior mentioned kick-ass tune thru short headers and straight pipes back to Borla Sport mufflers. I never cared for the smell of raw gas and eventually replaced all 4 OE cats without any adverse effect on how the engine ran. Well tuned indeed. That included a freak winter snow storm with 8" on the ground to drive thru for 10miles uphill much of the way on Summer Only "do not operate in snow" tires. The car was that bright blue (not aqua), RS, 6spd manual and with the broad white factory stripes. It had every aftermarket, top of the line bolt-on available at that time, including a Richmond 3.73 rear gear that made her a killer in downtown traffic! Put it in 2nd and idle along until you have a little room and then punch it, screaming that sweet V6 way past any posted limit. It was lovely. I still worry about it from time to time. Anybody got a clue what's become of her? Last edited by Ventmaster; 06-10-2022 at 06:40 PM. |

For those looking for idler pulleys, it would be better to convert to Overkill's supercharger mounting bracket.
The idler pulleys from the original IPF kit are prone to failure and the Overkill bracket pretty much eliminates them altogether aside from simplifying maintenance and primary pulley size swap.
