Amp for convertible

I was thinking of using the JL XD700/5 amp as it would fit in the stock location and could power a sub. What are the opinions? Will it be enough power for a sub or should I consider a separate amp for the sub?

I have a full JL system with the stock MyLink head unit with that same amp and two 10" subs. You are more than welcome to give it a listen sometime to form an opinion of your own.

I have installed the same amp you are considering in the factory location with a 10" Infinity sub in vert ******** box. I used the FARK and amp install plate also from ********. The amp has plenty of power for me. I have just purchased JL Audio component speakers to replace the fronts but haven't had the time to install that yet. Overall I'm a very happy with the JL amp and my setup. I also added a remote bass control switch/knob mounted near the cup holder area. That worked out good too.

Very nice set up! I have almost the same. I put in two 10" JL subs though. It's much better than stock that's for sure!!

I agree. Swapping out the amp was a vast improvement alone.

I know. Got them this past weekend but car had to go to dealer for a little warranty paint correction Monday. I'll get it back tomorrow. Maybe this weekend - hopefully.

Did you use the small sub box or the larger one from ********? I was hoping the small box would be enough - do not want to lose the trunk space.

That is great as I was worried it would be too small.
