It's not an Impala. The Chevy SS is a whole separate platform. Plus, if you were going to build a new Chevelle, would it really look like this?

A good article from GM Inisde News about the VF Commodore
VF Commodore Technical Details Quote:
(Very early VF aero prototype - it has fibreglass front panels. Used to test both Coefficient of Drag and cooling opening to sustain engine temperatures, hence the duct tape over the grille. Note the filler filets on the lower fascia examining various aspects of minimising drag. This is close to the final shape.) (Not just for looks - if you wonder why the rear lights are the shape they are, aero work is part of the reason.) Quote:
Quote:
(New aluminium hood - about 20lb. I went to lift the leading edge up, and nearly flipped it off the bench after trying the old steel one!) Quote:
(You can see the new alloy suspension knuckles with the brake callipers bolted to them, plus the new aluminium linear control suspension swinging arms.) (Rear suspension has detail changes (some debuted on MY12 VE) - Evoke has a unique lighter differential. Rear upper control arms are alloy in lieu of cast iron. Rear sway bar links are crossbolted with extra fasteners in V8 models.) Quote:
(New electric power steering - sensor on steering column detects deflection and depending on steering module mapping for speed and effort provides precise assistance- reduces drag on motor.) (New instrument panel bracket - about half the weight and very cleverly crush-stamped from a square extrusion. Reversed, the one die and weld fixture makes them LHD or RHD) (The observant might note the badge on this car, and the side being pranged.....) Quote:

The SS has arrived in the U.S., and should be hitting dealerships very soon.
I wonder how long it will be before we see some reviews?

So the Commodore SS V Redline with the 361hp/385 lb-ft L77 6.0L does 0-60 mph in 4.8 sec.
I wonder what the SS will do using the LS3?

I Kind of like it. I would NOT trade my Camaro in for one. It would be nice for my wife tho. But no Manual Kills it for me. If it was $1500 less with a manual, Maybe?

Wasted opportunity with this car... no manual transmission. I'd be seeking one out for a test drive if it had a clutch pedal. Without it, it's just another car...

I would frankly like to see a DCT which is kind of the best of both worlds. Can't say what the number would be, but I'd guess less than 25%. Even the Corvette is only around 50% manual/automatic. Manuals just don't sell in that segment. An AMG E63 has an automatic only. But the BMW M6 Gran Coupe offers a no cost manual. So not always clear. So it may not work for you, but at least realize it works for many which doesn't make it a "wasted opportunity". The lost opportunity is you for one and a few more.

I still feel like this is a stopgap for the NASCAR program until GM has an in-house car to use as their template since the NASCAR bodies are now manufacturer-specific. |

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a manual transmission in a sports car. I just don't need it in a sports sedan. Agree on the "simple" look. It is part of what makes my Audi so nice. There is nothing flashy about it but everything is very well done for fit, finish and feel. All that being said, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see a manual in year 2 if the car does well. They are certainly doing a strange roll out with the car apparently on sale but no reviews yet. If I were shopping today, this would be a great replacement for the S4. would just miss the AWD and great mileage.
