Question V6 Skip Shift?

For what it's worth, in the 2010 Camaro Quick Reference Guide that is available through the link in the article on the Camaro5 home page, there is one section that caught my eye.

In the section that discusses the manual transmissions, the skip shift seems to be applicable only to the V8.

I say that because (and I'm paraphrasing) The description is given along with it's function in a sentence within that paragraph and in the middle of that sentence a parentheses is inserted like this "...(V8)...".

It sounds like the guide is saying that the V8 has the skip shift as the V6 is not mentioned anywhere in that sentence or on either side of that sentence.

If you have linked to that site with the Quick reference guide and have printed out that guide, look towards the back of the guide where the section on manual transmissions is located.....

I am assuming that is correct as the manual transmissions for the V8 and V6 are different products. Standard with the 3.6L engine is the Aisin AY6 six-speed manual. On SS models, the new Tremec TR 6060 six-speed manual is paired with the LS3. I'm not sure if this is the same transmission as in the 2008 Corvette, but if it is, it takes a bit of getting used to. I drove a 'vette my buddy owns and if you're easy on the throttle you have to shift from 1st to 4th. Try jamming it into any other gear and you need tranny repairs. A little harder on the throttle and you can go through the gears as normal.

Thumbs up V6 Skip Shift

Yes I agree...I had a 2005 C6 Vette and that damn skip shift was one of the first "mods" I made...
And yes I believe with the V6 tranny being different from the V8 tranny and with the perceived and actual difference in performance between the V8 and the V6 that a skip shift should not be "needed" with the V6....

If it comes with it though, I am ready again to "modify" it as I am waiting for my 2LT Black on Black with the manual tran......

NO SKIP SHIFT for the V6 ... read it somewhere ... V8 still needs it to avoid the "Gas Guzzler Tax".

With the V6 there is no worry about that !!

Hey there B.A.
I have a black on black 2LT coming with the automatic. (Would have taken the manual, but I have a bad knee...ACL...and it wouldn't stand up to city driving with a stick. Regardless I am pumped!

Yes sir...that dreaded "Gas Guzzler Tax". The V8 DOES avoid that, does it not? I know the 'vette does, but is that because it's classed as an exotic?

No skip shift on the V6. I don't find it at all bad on the V8. It is only an issue on occasion and generally when it forces me to 4th I am not pulling hard to second anyway.

I never found skip shift much of a nuisance, other than the car bogging and driving like a turd. But it's easy to avoid or eliminate altogether anyways.

I have 2011 2LT (black on black) with manual transmission. I was suprised at how easy and light the clutch is for the car. There is definitely a difference in stiffness of the v8 vs the v6 clutch.
