PA inspection question

So I was told certain counties do not require emissions. I live in Montgomery County where they require inspectors to test for that but if I went north by the Poconos they can pass my car legally with LT headers and high flow cats etc?

no, the state goes by where the car is registered (county).

I believe if you drive less then 5000 miles a year they can just exempt your emissions.

If you do not drive your car more than 5000 miles a year, you can get an exemption sticker. I have one on my car. You must get it inspected in the same month every year though. If you are going for an exemption sticker, you can't get your car inspected earlier than your sticker month, unlike if you are going for a regular emissions inspection, which you can get done a month or two earlier than the month on your sticker. The county in which your car is registered, and its current inspection requirements, is the basis for your car's emissions inspection rules, not where you take it in the state.

I have been told by my tuner that I would have no problem passing emissions either with LT headers and high flow cats. I don't drive my car more than 5000 miles a year anyway, so I just request the exemption sticker.

+1

Also, in PA from what I've been told by two shops, one being a dealership, there aren't places that do a sniffer test. As long as you still have cats you should be fine.

I also live in Montgomery County.

As long as you aren't pushing a CEL for anything emissions related, and visually still have Catalytic Converters (basically it can't LOOK like you've removed anything that is emissions related), even if you did remove it, it can't look like it.

They just hook your car's OBD2 port up to their computer and make sure all of the sensors are reporting the correct ready reading. Done and done. We aren't hooked up to sniffer's or anything around here.

Due to extensive Mods, my Monte Carlo would never pass, so I keep it under 5000 a year and get the exemption haha. But I did use HPTuners on my car when it did need the inspection to turn off the CELs and never report them.

You will pass with LT headers and cats as long as you have the codes deleted with a proper tune. My 4th gen would pass all the time before it blew up. They simply check for cats under the car with a mirror and scan the computer to verify it isn't throwing any codes. I live in Lower Merion, no problems ever.

NJ was even easier when I lived there. Every other year, free at the state facilities. PA and their ridiculous annual inspection BS...

If you do have the codes being thrown and preventing you from passing, shoot me a PM. I can probably help you with a tune.

I never knew that you had to get the inspection in the same county as the car was registered in. Are you sure that is true? I live in close to the border of Lancaster and Berks Counties. I live in Lancaster County, what if I took it to garage in Berks County, wouldn't they inspect it?

You can go to any county and get it inspected, they just have to follow the laws of the county it is registered in.

I used to live in Pike County, PA. Didn't require emissions. I would get it inspected in Montgomery county and they didn't have to worry about emissions testing, because that was based off of the registration county.

Now that I officially moved my county on my registration, I have to get it emissions inspected.
