Bye bye...

Angrybird,
drive it like you stole it.

I have had my share of problems...broken 5th bow, finding nemo effect(flood in back seat due to water management bag failure).Which has since been fixed. As long as my dealer continues to be able to fix it, I am all good...its a bit annoying when problems arise as I travel 2-2 1/2 hours roundtrip to the dealer for roof issues.

but having said all that , I absolutely love my vert.

driving a coupe=okay
driving a vert=PRICELESS!!!

Best regards, and best of luck with your Vert. Chevrolet and your dealer are your best friends when it comes to widely known defective design flaws built into their vehicles.....if the world was a perfect place.

Brandon,
message to GM...we shouldn't have to be putting up with these problems...period.GM knows there are problems with the tops especially the first MY vehicles and should have voluntarily recalled them and applied fixes.
Heck, I couldn't even get new carpets approved after the flood in the backseat caused by the water management bag failure.

GM at the very least, should be sending out extended warranties for the tops and mechanisms to all the owners that have experienced major problems.ie broken 5th bows, floods in backseat etc.

Grab this. Thought things were ok, had the car back last friday, kept the top up for a week as the dealer indicated. Today, put the top down and when it went back up, the top pulled away from the weather stripping on the two back side windows. Could not put it back together. Also I noted a lot of black strings on both sides, which I had never noticed before. If I would have left it with the top up and drove it would have been bad, good thing I was not away from home. Talked with the dealer then took it in and met with the guy who put the top on. After looking he indicated that the way the top is made, that the only think holding the rubber to the weather stripping on the back side windows is a thin line of rubber which can be pulled out with a little force (such as the top going up or down). THis was was the way the gm engineers designed it. (Doesn't work), He is taking it back to his shop to see what is needed to correct the problem. Also we looked at another 2011 convert and it did not have the black strings that I now have. The installer advised that gm came out with the strings on this new top fix. Personnally I think this looks like crap and the strings can get tangled, broken or become non functional. I tried to contact the number Brandon from gm on this web site gave us to call. Don't know how someone in the Phillipines knows anything about our problems. I think we all want to talk with someone from the US for a US vehicle who can work with us. With all the money GM got from the Fed bail out, you would not think they would send their telephone customer service business overseas.. Thats BS. They will have the car all week end, hopefully it can be fixed. My thoughts here are that GM either does not care or give a s--t about the owners as they have already sold them the car. I would like for a GM engineer to talk to, someone that not only has knowledge about the problem, but who can do something about it, not a BS'er. Pissed, yes I am................................................ .................................................. ..............

Brandon? Care to chime in? Do you have anything of value to add to this ongoing issue with our $40K automobiles?

We know that you personally are powerless to enact such policy, thus this is not a personal attack. You have a job to do, and that is to plow through hundreds of forums looking for any problems from people networking with each other worldwide regarding issues with your company's cars. I am an open minded owner that LOVES this car. What I do not like is the obvious inaction on the corporate level to fix a known issue that seriously degrades the value and use of these automobiles.

At the very least, Chevrolet should butch up and do what's right - REPLACE the entire design flawed mechanism on our vehicles with the new design. That would be a good start. In this day and age of networking the last thing you'd expect would be to jerk around your customer base. We talk to each other, man.

basecar --- keep records of everything. "Brandon" and the Customer Service Center team were of absolutely no help what-so-ever to me through the past 8 months. Actually more of an impediment. All they did was harass the dealership with phone calls and then call me telling me the same exact thing I already knew prior via the dealership. Insanity. At the very least they created a communications nightmare with my case and our convertible, so much that at one point nobody was on the same page anywhere within GM on my car. That was a tale all of it's own. Good luck getting a real GM field engineer (a real one) to actually converse with you about your car. It seems that customer service and warranty application varies greatly from state to state depending upon whom the factory rep is assigned to your area. There is absolutely no consistency at all as evidenced by the demographics of this forum alone, among others. Best of luck bud, and keep us posted on your progress.

Just an update;

Car has about 1500 miles on her with about 20 top cycles (been seeing a lot of rain lately and I only put it down when we go somewhere - because that is what is making the rub marks etc,). Top looks good still but I sent an e-mail out to the Tech who I had originally met with (no I won't call him an engineer) about the cables. On thursday they have another tech being sent out "from the factory" who is meant to fix this.

We will see. Thus ends the update

So is there an escation process or do I go straight to the BBB? Any advice would be appreciated.
I wanted to provide everyone an update and also thanks to Bulllett & Pace for their advice as well as to Brandon for escalating the issue up the GM food chain. All very much appreciated!!

GM Called today and they will be replacing my top under customer sat. I also got a call from my dealership and spoke to the service manager for a while. I gave both the P/N for the new fabric with mod to the mechanism and explained that is what needs to be installed.

I knew GM would do the right thing and I am very happy it did not take a long road to get there. Hoping the install is smooth!

Ill keep ya posted!

mine goes in monday for the new top. i *think* i have GM coerced into replacing the water management bag as well, while its out... i explained that the part lists for 200 bux, prob costs them 100, and that should be cheap insurance for them to replace it while the top is out to avoid failure of it in the future and have to pay all the labor AGAIN to remove/reinstall the top. i also explained to her how it came with the second design top assembly, and should come with this new top as well!! she is calling me back tomorrow at 430, so hopefully she says they will pay for it! her response after i explained everything to her was "ill never buy one"... they also offered me something for all my "trouble", thou im not going to divulge that until i have confirmation of it in writing, and that wont happen until the top install is completed.

also, after the top is done, it goes BACK to the body shop, so they can fix the rear quarter AGAIN, and get rid of the dust/dirt, and wet sand marks, re-buff the whole car, and paste wax it (so i was told by the body shop). so this f-ing thing better look brand new when i go to pick it up, or they are buying it back. this is their last chance to get it right. ive owned it since april and after top install, i will be over the 30 days in the shop rule for the lemon law...

Good luck with your car. I'm at over 120 days out of service and 3 tops. I retained an attorney today. Done.

Cactuseater, maybe what we need here is a class action law suit against gm. I am suppose to get my car back tomorrow, hopefully all will be well. The dealer said they had contact with gm techs on the top.

Even if it gets fixed, you're trying to get out of this car?

Mine goes in Monday for the top kit, carpet replacement and tonneau cover replacement. Might as well get an oil change and have them put the splash guards on that I bought. Gee, maybe they'll toss that in for nothing...doubt it.
