It looks twice as complicated as it really is. The cablle just slides up though a channel in the top and is screwed to a mounting post at the front of the top which is easily seen if you open your top about 1/2 way. It all is very simple that's why I don't understand how they keep screwing it up.

Thanks Spike! Ill take a look at mine in the next few days. So how long have you had your new top and do you use it pretty often? I presume there is no cutting of the seal to date?

I try to drive it every weekend with the top down. Only goes up if rain comes to ruin my ride and yes I have no damage to the weatherstripping. The first set were damaged by the wire being incorrect.

Same build date as mine......

There's a whole bunch of info in these threads that cover about everything wrong, you just gotta take the time and read through them.

You can call your dealer or wait for Brandon from Chevy Customer Service to tell you. Since your build date is close to mine, it's probably on the list for the TSB, mine was. I had it done in April. But still have the marks.

Check out this thread, you will see my pics of my marks.

Hope this helps.

i started this thread, and my car ALSO is an 08/11 built car. so expect the same problems with your top. if you have marks on the top above one or both doors, and/or a V shaped pinch behind the quarter windows that will eventually get cut, then you will end up with this top shown in the pics in this thread. so far with mine i have no complaints!

UPDATE ON MINE

This past weekend i was heading to upstate NY to our vacation home. i decided to take the vert, since im finally proud to own and drive it

did a bunch of top down driving while up there, and 100 miles top down on the highway today all without the tonneau cover. avg @75mph. yes the top still flaps, but nowhere as bad as the original did. when i put the top up, no signs of any rub marks, pinches, or anything!! LOOKED GREAT! i think chevy has finally got it RIGHT!! again, until they have installed a bunch of these new tops at the dealerships, demand a GM engineer to install yours!!

also while there, we had a couple heavy downpours come thru. i left it outside to leak check it and all stayed dry. even drove thru one very heavy storm.

i even AVG 21mpg on the way up using 93octane w/ethanol.
22.5 coming home running 91 ethanol free gas.
i think its total BS that they got rid of the mtbe and went with ethanol additives that just kill engines and fuel systems. not to mention the MPGs?? WTF?

only had the car a week and 370 miles, however top has only been up when it was parked, down everytime I have driven it..

don't see those wrinkles (yet) or that pinch.. I do notice it flaps a bit without the cover..

however I have noticed my brembos are discolored already.. damn dealer detailers.

my top problems started early on. who knows, maybe your dealer knew how to do the recall properly and you wont have any problems. dont sweat it, until you do. just keep an eye on it. im not talking about wrinkles, thats normal. rub marks look greyish, and the pinch you will notice that the fabric is just completely flattened in a V-shape. theres tons of pics on the forum that show what to look for. even if you do get them, GM wont do anything about them until the fabric or threads are physically damaged.

congrats on the new vert!! i traded my 2010 ss coupe to get mine, yeah had alot of problems with the new vert, but now that everything appears to be good, my permagrin has returned!!

Quick OT comment...
I have used Marine Formula Sta-Bil in every fill up of my Camaros and Vettes. It's more expensive than regular Sta-Bil, but worth it. I recommend using it year 'round, not just for storage.

I have no stake in Sta-Bil.

Spike, I looked at my top today and I saw what you were talking about. The cable was not routed between the two plastic tabs you point out although the slot between them is the perfect size for the cable block.

The slots in my seal were starting to elongate already so I moved mine. I think you hit the nail on the head! Next time you cruise that vert to Savannah the beer is on me!

Not everyone has this issue. Hope for the best and enjoy the new toy!
