Spike ---

How does one re-route the cable correctly, in other words disconnect which end? The screwed end forward or the "block end" in the frame? I haven't really looked at it but will take a peek tonight. I'd love to show them exactly where they screwed up...in person, and reroute it right in front of them. According to them this incorrect version is "normal". LOL.... I haven't as of yet seen any that were right around here in person, no time really bummer. Thanks for the pictures, it makes perfect sense.

Hey guys, Just an FYI, although this routing looks correct and the square peg fits in the square hole, and the good results that Spike has with it, the GM service instructions for installing the new top do not specify how the cables are to be routed (which is obviuosly a problem). It tells the tech to leave the cables protruding from the seals (over the quarter windows) when removing the old top. I didnt see any step to route them when installing the new top.

Just saying I would be careful poking them in the eye with how we think it should be done. Catching more flies with honey and all that...

I took the block end loose. It is about 7" below where the cable comes out of the top and only held in place by a piece of tape. Took about 15 minutes to do both sides.

Hellbent answered for me! That Zamak block just gets turned on it's side and out it comes. The tape is just to hold it in place until you get tension on the cable.

Glad you guys got the cable problem figured out. I cant believe, if its that straight forward, why the installers cant figure that out... Atleast its an easy fix!

Update: Since my new top was put on a couple of weeks ago, I finally got around to washing the car and now I have water in the rear passenger floor, both sides. I did not have any water there before the new top. I could not find any signs of water running down from the windows or anything. Any ideas or thoughts on what could cause this?

It's the water bag in the back, it's been covered lots, do a search on this forum for it. Sounds like they goofed it up when the top got replaced.

Two typical sources of water bag leaks are the front drain tubes not being snapped in all the way and the fold of material just above the front drain tubes not being positioned properly. Search my threads for the one that compares the new and old water bag. There are pics in there.

Basecar, thats exactly why I DEMANDED they update the water bag to the newer design without these problems!
i was willing to pay for the waterbag (list 210 cost GM about 100) if i absolutely had to. i was that adamant about it!! from what i was told by the dealer, the new bags have 6 drains instead of the original 4 drains. so to me that is a no brainer, and for the 100 bux they cost, it should be included with a new top!! even if they included it and upped the cost of the top 100 bux, regardless, the water bag should be replaced anytime the top is replaced on a car with the old design bag IMHO.

So meeting with engineer coming to the dealer tomorrow. Has there been a final decision on those "cables" that are routed between the canvas and second bow? Is that normal or is that also resolved by rerouting them somewhere else?
