Tire advice

Just closed on a '14 ZL1. Traded my SS.

A few on this forum are running Conti-DWS's. I suspect that's where I will head as well. For those that ran the Goodyears awhile before they switched, or even switch back and forth, what is/was the drop-off in performance?

I hear the Michelin Pilot SS are good but why can't I find anyone that carries them to fit my rims. I've got stock rims on a 2013 Camaro SS. Current tire size Front:245/45ZR20/XL 103Y. Rear:275/40ZR20/XL 106Y

I just got Pilot Super Sports on my ZL1 and I LOVE them. They aren't in production right now due to it being winter.

My local Discount Tire was able to get my fronts, but I had to go to Tirebuyer.com to find the rears. I also went from 305/35r20 to 315/35r20 on the rear.

So far during the Texas Fall/Winter Weather, my Conti DWS have been far superior than the good years.

When temps are warm, they perform just as well for daily driving.

If you plan to track, the GYs are superior. They stick to the ground like glue. Since I only DD the Contis have been amazing so far. I have 630 RWHP and able to WOT in rain and cold. I couldn't do that in the GY. Spun out in all speeds.

I put a set of cont. dws on the rear. at first I thought it was a huge mistake, because the car handled like shit, but then I realized it was because I could not run them with the 37 psi that I was used to putting in the goodyears to get alittle better mileage. I dropped them down to 32 psi and all was good.

I too will be switching to the conti DWS when next Fall rolls around. I just got my car a few days ago, and yeah the Goodyears are terrible for driving in cooler conditions. Spring and Summer are coming up so I figure I'll keep them on at this point, run through them and then when Fall comes I'll replace them with the DWS.

I too had a concern how the handling would be affected switching to the DWS so anymore people with some feedback on that would be great.

I have Conti DWS on my every day car a Mazda6 grand touring V6. There absolute garbage. They do not handle well, suck in the rain and snow, and are not durable at all. The stock Michelin tires were MUCH better. I do a lot of driving for work. On my ZL1 I'm keeping the stock tires. If ever I had to use it daily I'd switch to a good Michelin all season performance tire over anything else out there especially Conti craps. The biggest waste of $880 I ever spent.

I have started running the Mickey Thompson Street Comps...They are a UHP tire and have been working well for me since I got them...Had to get them scrubbed in good, but every since I have no complaints...Get warm faster then the F1's did and hook good. Personally I feel like they are leaps and bounds better then the stock F1's. I do not track my car, only 1/4 mile stuff. I use the Nitto NT05R's when I go to the track though. These are my street tires and you won't beat the price...No complaints about road noise either. Good luck with your selection, its hard to find a really good all around tire that you don't spend 1600.00 a set for. The M/T's are about 640.00 a set..roughly

The second day after I purchased the ZL1 I took off the Goodyears and installed a set of Mickey Thompson Street Comps. Great all year tire, and wet tire. Very quiet, last twice as long. The I got them online for about $600.00 for the set if you shop around.

I'm running GY PS2 on the front 275's and Nitto NT05R's on the back in 315's. Love them. I hated the GY Supercar's. Hard Compound that only had grip when hot. Useless when cold.

I'm going to the dealer where I bought my car. I want the tires they put on the vette, the Michelins. This not using the car under 40 degrees because the tires suck and will crack is bull on a 62k car. GM has to do something!

What happens when GM no longer makes this car and Goodyear stops making the tire. GY said they make it for the ZL1 exclusively.
