2015 Mustang review

Not sure if this a repost nor do I know if this is the right part of the forums to put it in (if not sorry moderators.) If this a repost then I sure didn't see it and I hope other people can read what I just read if they didn't know already.

Was looking at the new 2015 mustang and I found this info on it. Thought it was kinda funny on what the new mustangs are gonna have and I thought I would share.

I hope they're wrong about it being 100 pounds more than current car. Ford was touting a weight loss of as much as 400 pounds in some early talks. They'll look pretty stupid if it gains weight instead of losing it.

With the next Camaro looking to be lighter it won't be good for Ford fans.

I really don't care for any new cars coming out. I picked up an old muscle car a few weeks ago, so every time I drive that around for a bit, I jump in my 2011 GT and feel like I'm in a 2025 S class Mercedez. Nothing like a 52 year old car with no sound deadening to make you appreciate the newer stuff for what it is.

Isn't there a 200 lbs. difference now between a 14 GT and 14 SS? If the new '15 Mustang is to gain 100 1lbs, that's going to bridge the weight gap closer. And with the 6th gen around the corner on the smaller platform, we could see both of these vehicles very close to each other in weight.

I'm really disappointed in the new mustang look. 11-14 had that great 5.0 and tough looks but this just looks European IMO but so does the new 14 Camaro which in all honesty I'm not a fan of. Glad to see they upped the power on the 5.0 though.

I tend to agree with you there, the new 15 Stang looks a little "Celica-ish".[/QUOTE]

Don't get me wrong though that 5.0 is a great car. IMO I'll give it dodge. The srt8 challanger had stayed and kept that muscle look. I hope ford and gm give their cars more muscle appearance down the road. I did see orange is an option on the new stang though. I do have a liking for the color orange.

The 2015 is about the same size as the 2014 so unless they're using different materials, it's gonna be hard to drop much weight. The fact that Ford hasn't really touted the 2015's curb weight says to me it probably doesn't weigh much less than the outgoing model. The 2015 will perform better than the 2014 for sure, but it's a shame they couldn't come through on saving weight.

I remember the magazines touting the weight loss...I honestly don't remember Ford saying anything official. At least not like they did with the F-150 losing 700#. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but I don;t remember Ford ever officially saying it would be lighter. I remember all the magazines estimating it.

This is an old article and I don't believe the Mustangs curb weight has been announced. If one magazine is saying 400lbs lighter and this one is saying 100lbs heavier, then nobody knows what it weighs.

Ford originally claimed a 400 lb weight loss but that was a long time ago. They haven't mentioned weight since then so people take that as it didn't lose much weight or even gained some.

There's no way that the '15 mustang is going to drop 400 lbs from the current. Base curb weight of the Current GT is 3,618 lbs, that'd be 3,200 lbs in the same size car. The price hike would be significant to accomodate such lightweight materials to accommodate this. Especially with it getting an independent rear. The gain of 100 lbs is much more believable and like many have said, Ford would be touting the weight loss if it was a thing.

The new design is definitely polarizing. I've heard a lot of non-mustang fans raving over it and a lot of mustang fans hating it. Personally, I like the current design a lot more, but I've yet to see the '15 in person so I'm not committing to my judgment just yet. I'm curious to see how much hp Ford tweaks out of the ole 5.0 since the '16 Camaro will inevitably have the new LT1 with probably around 450hp (judging the hp difference by the difference between LS3 corvette numbers and LS3 SS numbers).

I agree with your weight assessment but stranger things have happened. Nobody thought there was a chance in heck of the GT500 showing up with 662HP, and then the ZL1 spanking it on just about every road course with an 82HP deficit.

I've got the 12' 5.0 and really like that body style. the 2015 style -Not so much a fan............but, my next car however will be a jump to GM (keeping the stang) and i'm either going w/ Z51 stingray or the new 2016 Camaro as I hear the new platform is gonna shed some pounds but still have that killer Camaro look. stingray is my #1 choice unless some of the freakin' dealers here in Houston pad the price too much.

Im buying a 13 5.0 tomorrow and going to supercharge it, I hope to be interested in the 2016 camaro (keeping both) IF there is significant weight loss. I have had an 09 c6 and they dont have enough room for my tastes. Love the c7 however, cant wait to test drive a z06.
