I personally don't think OnStar is worth the money. The navigation was no better than my smartphone app. The diagnostic feature should be free; it is a lead generator for your local dealership. The unlock feature is nice, but not worth a monthly subscription fee. The crash notification could be a lifesaver in certain circumstances. But given the infrequency of a crash event, I think it should be a free customer service.
I like free just as much as the next guy, but who is gonna pay the folks that man the On Star call center? How are the people who dispatch emergency vehicles, the people who unlock your car going to make a living? As for the diagnostics....signals are sent from and to a satellite to bring you vehicle systems information. You think GM should pay for that? Really? The days of big companies=deep pockets are long gone. tack on another $2500-$3000 to the purchase price of the vehicle and now you have free OnStar!!!!

Remote Link is free for 5 years...no subscription needed. Down load the app and unlock your own doors. On '15's BASIC OnStar is free for five years.

Otherwise....you screw up...it is YOUR FAULT!!!.

I think that setting is just if the key is in the ignition, it wouldn't know if you left it in the trunk.

onstar is a bit like insurance. You don't call an insurance company after your accident or heart attack and sign up for service hoping they'll cover your existing bills. You sign up before you need it.

It's because your door is open. Throw the keys in the seat and shut the door, in about 15 seconds the door will lock if you have already pushed the lock button.

A base OnStar package is $240 a year. If it was included in the purchase price and only for the original owner, the cost would be far less than $2000.

That aside, if the diagnostic feature alerts the local dealer and the owner gets the work done there, should the owner get a discount? After all, it is a revenue generating lead for the dealership for which they pay nothing.

GPS units uses satellite signals, but don't charge an ongoing fee.

Lock out service done per transaction makes sense. Can be automated with no call center cost. Obvious infrastructure cost needs to get recouped.

Without getting too much into call center management, GM probably could handle the incremental volume of crash events. Or meld the cost into the purchase price. The level of occurance must be low, so the aggregated cost is low.

I see now, you have the anti lockout on, but not the lock delay.
Sorry my mistake.
