Exclamation "Service StabiliTrak" after replacing steering wheel

So I replaced the stock steering wheel on my 2011 LS with a leather wrapped one from a 2011 SS convertible, and now "Service StabiliTrack" shows up along with a couple of the traction control lights ... Does anyone know anything about this? I read through a lot of threads before buying this steering wheel so that I knew it would work...kind of odd that replacing the steering would cause it tho. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like something happened with your steering angle sensor while you replaced the wheel. Gonna take a trip to the dealer.

Hmm, where is the angle sensor located? When I replaced the wheel I turned the black connector plate behind it a few times. Would that cause an issue to show up?

I just talked to Onstar to see if any error codes were showing up but they couldn't find anything. I talked with the Onstar technical expert about replacing the steering wheel and he mentioned something about the steering wheel yaw sensor. Ill have to pull everything apart again and check the connections. If that doesn't fix it it looks like I will be visiting the dealership ...

After looking through some other threads related to the steering wheel and/or service stabilitrak message I found some more info. The steering wheel angle sensor is connected to the clockspring (the clockspring is the part which has the steering wheel buttons connector as well as the airbag wires). When I replaced the steering wheel I accidentally turned it one turn to the right before putting the steering wheel back on .

When I drove the car the sensor would measure that I was turning the wheel past the maximum and it would throw up the error. I didnt know what side I turned it to so I turned it in each direction until the error would show. I took the wheel back off and turned the clockspring in the opposite direction one turn and everything was good to go after I put it all back together.

When you have the wheel off an look at the clockspring, there is a clear window. You know it is aligned if the electrical connectors are in the correct 12 o'clock position and you can see a yellow roller in the window. Should be about the 5 o'clock position.

Thanks

You just saved me tons of time and well over a hundred dollars. I pulled my wheel off too aggressively doing the HUD install and apparently turned my steering angle sensor before putting it back on.
The dealer couldn't fix it till next week, and it was going to be a hassle if they reflash the computer because I have a custom tune.
You don't know just how much I appreciate this information.
Thank you x 1000.

I recently had the same issue. Don't take it to the dealership....they will take forever to diagnose the issue and charge the hell out of U. All you have to do is rotate the clock sensor with your finger and the stabiltrak light will go off.

Sorry, I think im confused. I got this service stabilitrak after ARH header install. No codes, just this service stabilitrak. In order to install the ARH headers, you need to disconnect the steering shaft that runs right along the engine bay area to get the headers off and on. So Im think I messed something doing that... Is what you guys are talking about near the engine bay, or is this something under the dash near the steering wheel itself? Or do you literally have to take off the steering wheel to get at it? Once the steering shaft was disconnected, I could freely spin the steering while inside the car from the engine bay, so I could have twisted it a few times trying to get it all back together?
