Tough tire question

Neighbor bought ZL1. Took the runflat tires off and gave to me. They are 275 35 20 fronts 305 35 20 in rear...I have a 2020 3LT. Have 245 45 20 on now. ..I'd like to know what size camaro wheel I need to purchase to use these tires. I'll be searching OEM wheels in Georgia and Alabama and Tennessee. Will I have any issues at all. Thanks.

I recommend OEM SS 1LE wheels, these are fully forged, high quality and look the absolute best, nothing beats them in that department IMO. Their widths are 10" front and 11" rear. Not cheap, but you will definitely get what you pay for.

By the way, those are non-standard tire sizes for the SS (or any other 6th gen Camaro for that matter), I wonder what wheels your neighbor was running. They do work, and maybe he was trying to fill the wheel well more by using a larger aspect ratio with the extra width, but honestly I'm just wondering.

Someone put RF on it because it’s not OE…which some people actually do. Youll need a 10 maybe 9.5” for the 275, and an 11” for the 305. RF tires suck even when they're free, id reconsider this as a gift, or not.

If you don't want to spend $3600+ on a set of OEM SS 1LE wheels, MRR 017 SS 1LE replicas are a fine wheel for the street and a set can be had for about $1,500... They will work well on your 3LT with those size tires...

I just put these on my 2SS (non-1LE) and absolutely love them...

I don't think it makes sense to spend all the money on getting wider wheels (about $1,500 even with the MMR017 1LE replica wheels as noted above) and then put bad run-flats on them (even though they are free).

Especially for an 3LT, I'd think you do better off spending your money on getting matching 9.5" rear wheels and putting on best non run-flat summer or all-season performance tires with wider 275/35/20 on new rear wheels (rather than going even wider wheels & tires with those run flats).

He got those tires for free. Nothing wrong with running them for a while, then investing into real tires once he wore them down completely.

MRR017s are good, but they're "flow formed" and much less sturdy than (the fully forged) stock SS 1LE wheels, which is reflected in the price difference ($300 to $350 vs $650 to 700 apiece).

It's called "having options". I offered information, he is an intelligent person and will decide for himself which tradeoff to take.

SS + ZL1 are the same wheel sizes and ET. (Outside of the 19") I've heard the 6 cylinders can handle the same wheel and tire sizes. The LT1 is basically a V6 body with a V8 engine, and can fit SS/ZL1 wheels and tires. (Again outside of the 19") The 19" wheels are for the ZL1 1LE specifically. (Bigger brakes, wider front and rear tires etc)

I use 20x11 ET43 rear wheels and 20x10 ET20 front wheels and run 275/30R20 front tires and 305/30R20 rears on my SS which is a non 1LE. A lot of people say the 305/35R20's will work on the rear but my ahole puckers because of the wire harness. People swear it is not an issue with 35 aspect on the tire.

They gave them away for a reason, they SUCK. Just sell them and use the money for a better set for the wheels you already have.

Well, I learned where Smyrna is
Are these all season run flats, or summer performance only?

If you want OEM wheels I would do a search on ebay and set an alert at your price point. OEM wheels will show up. I got a full set for $750 a few years ago. Granted, these were the basic 5-spoke SS wheels from 2017 or so. Still a classic look, although I mainly use my 50th anniv wheels.

For those tire sizes that the neighbor gave you, the SS 1LE wheel sizes and offsets are definitely the way to go. That said, regardless of whether these are the best tires in history or the worst, the real problem is that at 28.4" in the rear and 27.6" front, they are a lot taller in diameter than came on 6th-gen SS 1LEs or ZL1. I wouldn't run them because they will make handling worse, they will probably ride pretty badly, and you do risk rubbing through the rear driver's side fender liner into the harness behind it.

What you could possibly do is sell them to someone that owns a 5th-gen, because I believe they used these taller tires. Then you could put any money you make from that into purchasing an already-assembled set of SS or 1LE wheels and tires.

If your intent is to move to using the new wheels/tire sizes for the rest of your ownership, then maybe it makes sense. But if you don't want to keep buying new tires at the larger sizes, then i'd just sell the RF.
