Need help increasing horsepower

What's the most amount of horsepower I can get into my 1981 Camaro Z28 without having to cut fenders and stuff for parts? Any possible way to get around 400? What parts? Thanks.

Are you looking for the most horsepower you can make? Or are you looking for the most horsepower you can make with adding bolt ons to the stock engine? It really depends on what you are wanting to do. 400hp would be easily reached, but it would require complete rebuild on the motor.

Assuming you have lets say-a 350-just a guess because I have no idea whats actually under there. Cam,headers,intake,carb,heads. Get a better distrib, wires, and plugs,syn. oil.

I planned on leaving the stock 350 rebuilt engine in it, no mods. Just added bolt ons and what not, nothing that's going to make me have to drill fenders and stuff for a motor to fit in.

Any headers will be ok, I have a 77 Trans AM-same car. Mine has Pontiac motor in it,theres no need to drill on the fenders. I would suggest a perfomer intake from Edelbrock, performer cam, Carb #1406, then maybe a set of heads. Youll have a good reliable and powerful setup.

new exhaust if possible
heads(i consider those bolt ons) because they are well bolted on
you need the compression
if its going to be stock with just headers and stuff you will be lucky for 230
cam and heads is what you need to do

Alright, I plan on doing everything possible. But I don't know too much yet, I just turned 16. My Dad knows alot more, but I havn't gotten to talk to him about it.

theres a great article in super chevy when they make 406 hp on budget of 1,000.00 bucks. They added aluminum heads a comp cam aluminum intake pretty much the rest is stock except for a few odds and ends may be somthing good to look into

Go to Edelbrock.com, I built a 74 400 block with their equipment, and the motor is running 435 horse, about 410 tq. I used the performer series but with the Torquer Cam, its a little radical, but the rest of the build was pretty conservtive. I have some pics and can take if a vid (try to) if you would like.

Any small block chevy parts will fit your motor. The least I would do is a good exh.(headers,good flowing mufflers, etc), If it is in the budget a good set of heads 2.02 valves and 64cc (performance wise, cast are as good as aluminum for what you are doing), a cam (nothing to radical), I would run an eldebrock rpm intake, and a 650 holley carb. You should be able to do all of this with a reasonable budget (it you can do the installs) and you will have a good performing hot rod. If you know exactly what your goals are I can help you with a good combo. I have been building and racing chevy engines for 20yrs. It all really depends on how much money you have to spend and what kind of performance you are looking for.
