I don't get this, why is GM making such a big deal about wi-fi. The majority of cell phone users have the ability to create a hot spot with their phone. Why would I want to pay additional fees for this service tied only to my car. It's like buying cell phone minutes to use with OnStar. Biggest waste of money in my opinion when I"m already paying for it on another device.

The Wi-Fi is a big deal to those that want to run apps on MyLink, and for the future expansion of apps, and for devices that might not have a active primary cellular connection, like a child's iPad or iPod (home wifi network only). That allows them to run their devices in the car. Apps like Pandora, Google Voice, subscription-based navigation, etc.

It's not a big deal to me, and it wouldn't be a selling feature if I were buying, but it's still an available option.

No doubt that GM will roll out 4G/LTE with the 6th gen.

The electronic infrastructure of the current generation Camaro could not handle what GM needed it to do to add WIFI to our cars.

The benefit of adding WIFI to the vehicle even though you can do that with your cell phone is that it is a much stronger signal from a much bigger antenna than your cell or a wireless hotspot could ever have, and the power to run that antenna is coming from your vehicle which has a battery and charging system that creates a much stronger current and much more reliable signal.

Plus for AT&T customers you can add it to the data plan for $10.00 a month which is relatively cheap.

I thought GM pairs with Verizon for this?

My ATT iPhone is a wifi spot and I have a Verizon MIFI hot spot as well if I don't have good ATT coverage. I can see it as a selling point for the SUVs if you've got a bunch of kids that can get annoying without constant distraction. I wonder if there will be a data cap?

I would have upgraded my Onstar to a 4G version, but they said no upgrade for Camaro, so I dropped Onstar.

Aftermarket you can get Delphi Connect which is like Onstar 4G on steroids. I'm thinking about it.

I bet most people who see those Chevy Wi-Fi commercials are too uninformed to realize that Wi-Fi in the car doesn't mean free internet in the car, and that they'd have to pay their cell phone provider for another data line. They probably think that since they have "Comcast Wi-Fi" at home, that's what they'd be getting in their car.

I'm guessing they've been focusing a lot of Camaro sales on the 2016 and really want to persuade us to upgrade when the time comes.
