4L80 opinions and suggestions
Looks like I'll be forced to do the 4L80 swap sooner than I had planned. I've read great things about RPM, Jakes and Century.
Who do you suggest and why? What would be the best transbrake? What about the torque converter? I won't be using a Circle D so it would be nice to keep that option out of this thread even though many if you have had great success. Anyone with 1/4 mile passes with a 4L80 any regrets? What about daily driving? |

I did mine about a year ago. I have no regrets I hated the A6 hell you go 10' and you was in 2sec gear. Some don't like the long first gear with the 4l80 I love it. And in the 1/4 mile with the 3.91 rear gear made my best pass 10.57 @ 130.78 and the 60' not bad 1.53. I bought my harden parts from Jakes had some guys here in Tallahassee build it for me. I have had bad luck with mail order trans. If I had to buy one it would be from Jakes. Torque converter FTI their great to work with and I thank they have the best. As for driving with the 4L80 overdrive and lock up on the converter just as good as the stock trans

Don't overlook RPM Transmissions as they build incredible stuff and stand behind it like no other company. I will not have any other trans in my car but RPM. RPM is very personable and they are at every race and willing to help 24/7. Don't know anything about Century but have heard good things about Jakes but RPM in my opinion is the best out there.

you are in texas it appears..jakes also in texas..i am running jakes and so far it is strong.can,t go wrong with rpm either..also have not heard much about century.. there are a couple different 4l cases, try toi get a newer one.. they are slightly smaller in some places...we had to do some frame boxing to get it in there correctly, others have not...this is due to the year of the 4l case

RPM is my go-to builder, not just for beefy 4L60/70s but for 4L80e swaps as well. Very happy with the results and driveability!

Only thing I'm on the fence about is getting a built rear now or keep my fingers crossed hoping nothing happens with my stock. I'll think about it a bit more so I can make a decision I won't regret when ordering a drive shaft |

I used a 96 case had to box for plug and massage right side to fit. FTI 3000 stall multidisc with lock up. Hey the PCM harness is the way to go no stand alone unit need with trans. I thank you want a 96 or older for case bolts in better. Also running stock rear and axles with 3.91 gear and slicks cutting mid 1.50 and low 1.60 60'. I'll run the stock diff until it blows. Don't wont to add weight I just cut it down to 3760lb from 4120lb
