I had a deposit on my new Camaro for 2 years. GM finally built it and put it on a quality hold with no explantion or hint of why or when it would be delivered. I was not about to waste another summer without a hot rod, so I immediately (april 2009)went on the prowl for a GT500 and found a 2008 convertible with 600 miles on it for $41,000 locally. It had already been modded with suspension and exhaust.
That is certainly not much out of the price range for a Camaro, especially considering it is a convertible. I've since driven the Camaro, and friends have them. The GT500 is a totally different animal and is envied by all. I love it, and so do the Camaro owners when they hear the blower whine. Its a beast and it was a blessing in disguise that GM held up my car. As mentioned, I had also thought at GT500 was out of my price range when the dealers were trying to get $20,000 over MSRP for them. I had taken it off of my shopping list over that issue. In fact, it left a very bitter taste in my mouth that Ford would let the dealers do that to their flagship hot rod (yea, I know...interstate commerce laws etc) and I swore I would never buy a Ford product over that issue alone. But...here it is in my garage now and being that they only make a little over 2000 GT500 verts a year it is a very rare car. It was obviously affordable...but I can't say the same for the Camaro convertible when it finally comes out. And its not gonna have a blower on it either at whatever price a buyer will have to pay. I guess the whole point I'm trying to make is that the term "affordable" is not written in concrete. It changes when a model has been out for a year and some used ones start showing up in the marketplace. I learned to not take a vehicle off your shopping list just because the local dealer is trying to rip you off on markups etc. The Z28 will be a perfect example of that when it finally comes out, and surely they will make more than 2000 per year being that GM needs to pay a few sheckels back to Obama for the cost of staying in business. Used Z06's are another example of that philosophy. The unfortunate owners who paid over MSRP for them have pretty sore backs from bending over when they try to sell them. Hang in there...you can get the car you want if you have a little bit of patience.

Z06 not ever a "Found on the Road Dead" mustang are for the laddies. I to own a silverdo and bought my camaro at the same dealer at MSRP and when the car arrived the sticker was about 1500.00 cheaper and they still honored the msrp 1500.00 off the top.

Oh Lord, not this tired argument again. Why not just buy an old Chevy Vega and drop 30K into it and you'd have a car that would blow the doors off the Camaro?

Yes, Mustangs were specifically designed for young Scottish men. You really know how to give credibility to your argument. That's for sure.

If $ were no object I'd probably have a CTS-V. I'd love to have a Shelby, but in addition to, not in place of the SS. |

Hey, you've never really lived until you've driven with the top down and the wind blowing through your kilt.

Check this out...
2010 SS Camaro = $33,430 MSRP Vortech + JBA Complete system + Hurst Shifter + B&G Springs = 10K in parts @ Retail Total = $43,430 for 650Hp New GT-500 = $49,495 MSRP for 540Hp I decided to keep the $6065 in the bank and drive away with the extra 110Hp! |

You might have 650HP for only $10K on top of the MSRP of the car, but you still drove away in a car worth $33,430 as far as NADA is concerned and with no warranty to boot. Better keep that $6K you "saved" handy, you might need it in the future. |
