Justification Assistance
Hey all,
So, it's finally time. After years of waiting, I'm going out to test drive and buy my Camaro this weekend. I'm sure you can all just imagine how excited I am. Here's the question: I'm looking for some real justifications it going with an SS over a 2LT. Reasons why I would need a V8 with 426HP when for 4k less I'd get a V6 with 323HP and 11 more mpg highway. Now, I have all the usual justifications in my head.. IE. There is something inherently wrong with owning a V6 muscle car.. Why not just buy an Accord? It's the "american" thing to do... BECAUSE I'M A MAN!!! lol. But legitimately, as someone who really just has always loved the Camaro but has no real intention of ever being on a track, is there any other justifications you guys can put forth? Obviously, I'm real close to just going V8 anyway, so it won't take much convincing, but other than just being able to grunt all manly in harmony with the exhaust note, I don't really know why. =) Thanks guys. -Dox |

I have a V6 mainly because I am a college student, and my Camaro is my daily driver and a V8 was really out of the question for my situation. I absolutely LOVE my 2LT! But if my situation was different, I probably would have gotten a V8 from the start. If you have the money, go for a V8. If not, the 2LT is still awesome. I have had mine for almost a year and have no regrets.

Drive them both then decide. Can't lose either way.

I would say don't drive the v8 if you think you want the 6, the HP difference is big....

Forget the hp difference... The torque makes the biggest difference in everyday driving. This coming from someone who just traded his '12 LS for a' 10 SS. Well worth it trust me!

Personally I would go V8 although my opinion is biased. If you can't afford the gas and a little more for insurance then get the V6. But do not drive both, repeat do not dive both. Otherwise it will make you buy the V8 even if you don't need it.

Btw for normal everyday driving I don't see a giant drop off in gas mileage between the two... I was averaging 20/21 in my 6 and around 18/19 in the SS. Highway mileage (5 hour each way road trip) I got 26.7 with my 6 and 24.2 with the SS.
Hope that helps...

'Tis true! I AM bringing home a Camaro regardless.
Thanks for the input, guys. It isn't so much a financial decision as it was that silly logic and responsible thinking that comes with creeping up on my mid 30's. =) do i really need the extra power in exchange for the gas bills? With already seeming to lean towards the SS I DO agree that I shouldn't drive them both if I have any idea of possibly coming home in the 2LT. I also would like to think that the a fore mentioned logic would lead me to shop around a little, find the perfect car at the best price, but you and I both know that if I'm driving them on Friday afternoon, I'll be signing papers by Saturday morning. haha. |

If its not a big deal financially, do the right thing and get the V8. You will regret it later and wind up trading the V6 in later for a V8 like many on this forum have done.

Oh and one more thing... My insurance went up a whopping $9 a month when I switched. Barely noticeable imo

I would choose the V8.
Although if the difference is only 4k you might be comparing the 2LT/RS vs the 1SS non-rs so you might be missing a few bells and whistles. I would still chose the V8 though.. |

If you are on the fence get a V8 because if you don't you will in a year anyway.
