Inspections

So, I'm heading to Ramstein and I'd like to bring my car. I'd like some general feedback from you guys as to how difficult or stringent the inspections there are. I'd like to not make a whole lot of changes to the car as it stands but, if I have to, I understand. I just want to know what areas to be cognizant of.

Thanks.

I am currently over here with my Z. Depending on how loud your car is, they may or may not give you a hard time. They will more than likely have you remove your window tint off the front windows though. Other than the tint and exhaust decibels (95 is the max), I can't see them giving you too hard of a time. I'm here in Stuttgart and there is one other Z over here in our area. As far as I know, I believe we are the only two in this area. Not sure how many there might be in Ramstein. Either way, your car will love the Autobahn over here. When you gonna be over here?

I plan on having an exhaust controller to modulate the valve in the NPP exhaust. Hopefully that'll suffice to pass their db test. I'm already tracking that I'll have to remove the tint from my front windshield, driver and passenger side windows.

What I'd like to know more specifically, is how this test for exhaust decibel actually conducted. Is it at idle? Do they measure it right at the exhaust or are they a few feet away? Do they rev the car at all? Etc.

Also, I heard that they don't actually perform emissions testing so, I don't have to put cats on the car, is that true?

Check out AE 190-1. That reg covers all you want to know about vehicle inspections and registration processes.

Here's a link, Appendix C covers inspections and what you want to know starts at C-6.

and no, they do not perform emissions testing here.
