2011 ss Camaro oil pressure fluctuating
Hey guys recently my oil pressure in my car has started fluctuating and I'm not exactly sure why. Usually it stays above 30 but after it warms up at idle it sits at around 15 to 20 and the car has seemed to have alot more oil consumption. It increases with rpms but at idle it goes up and down. Completely stock ls3. Help please and thank you.

You need to hook a mechanical gauge to it to verify. Usually, bad cam bearings can cause fluctuating oil pressure, but not usually at idle. Doesnt mean that bad cam bearings is your problem, you need to get an actual oil pressure gauge on it and check, dig into it a little more. Could just be a circuit fault or a bad sensor. If you pull all your spark plugs and look at them, you can usually tell if its burning oil because you'd see crud getting caked on the end of the electrode. You'd also smell it. But if its not burning oil, then it has to be leaking. You'd have to climb under the car and have a look.

The smell of oil burning came through thr vents one time. I park under a carport and haven't seen any oil under it.

How often do you change your oil? Does your mechanic tell you about metal flakes in the oil? Sounds like you have something internal that has broken or is fading fast.

My motor runs about the same without the consumption (3k miles on it w/ melling oil pump). Pressure seems fine. How much consumption are we talking here?

That is a kinda common thing with these cars. Mine got better when I installed a catch can.

Just trying to see if anyone may know what it can be. Did the catch can make up for the consumption

Catch can wont help with oil consumption it just keeps the oil from being returned into the intake and being burnt. You are at about max of GMs acceptable level of oil consumption. Once and engine is burning more than 1qt per 2k miles its considered excessive and typically its pistons and rings time. Not usually a problem on the 6.2 engines but there's a bunch of bulletins and special policies for oil consumption on other GM engines.

Dude! 3 quarts in 6,000 miles?! Something is SERIOUSLY wrong. Pay the $120 and get the thing checked out already. If they say nothing, the engine blowing for lack of oil should cover that $120 diagnostic.

The l76 engine that was in the g8 has a oil pressure relief valve for the DoD, that would spray oil in a bad spot beneath the piston. It did something to the oil control rings and caused high oil consumption. The fix was to add a sheild to deflect the oil spray from the pressure relief valve. There was actually a tsb for it. I do not know if this could apply here, but might be worth looking into, if in fact the l99 is similar.
