Ok, so the battery in the trunk makes sense!

Just changed out my battery for the first time. Holy massive heavy battery! Wish I would have weighed it, wonder if I can find the weight on the internets. I always wondered how it was helping weight balance being in the trunk. I get it after lugging the old one out and new one in!

Just make sure what ever battery you replace it with is vented like the original.

The Delco battery away from the engine heat will last a long time.
Why did you replace it?

I feel OPs pain, I had to replace the battery in my 10 SS at the 30 month mark.... It, the battery, decided it did not want to hold a charge anymore.... Just one of those things.

There is a tremendous amount of load on car batteries in the new generation vehicles. So many computers, power steering, accessories, etc. The alternator will carry the load in most driving conditions, but if you drive mostly short distances the battery will discharge more than the alternator can charge it.

Also, most new cars are programed to use power from the battery and not the alternator until the battery discharges to a predetermined level. This keeps the alternator off line and reduces drag on the engine, helping with fuel economy. Granted, the little improvement in fuel economy is minute, but the manufacturers have to squeeze every drop out of a gallon of gas to comply with oppressive government requirements.

I don't drive very much, so every week or so I will connect my Battery Tender to it to bring it up to a full charge. It always starts with a steady red light, indicating less that 80% charge.

Nickle Cadium batteries are the lightest and smallest batteries made. Very expensive though.
