Fixed awful heatshield rattle for good

Last year around winter time I started getting a rattle. Kinda figured out that it was the heatshield, wasn't sure where exactly but jiggled things around and it went away.

This year it got REALLY bad, especially when downshifting and engine braking. When I changed my oil today I checked it out and figured out exactly where the problem is. Stole a photo from the forum to point it out since I couldn't get a good pic myself:

At least in mine, where the heat shield runs straight down it meets up to the crossmember the transmission is bolted to. On the driver's side I could slide back and forth and scrape along there. Explains why I'd hear worse when engine braking, that crossmember probably was vibrating.

I just bent it out a bit along the bottom edge so it can't hit anymore and problem solved! Hopefully that helps if anyone else gets any rattles there.

Did the rattle ever come back?

I'm getting something that sounds like a heat shield rattle. I'll check this area out. Thanks for posting.

You just have to make sure you really bend it correctly. I did it kinda halfassed the first time and eventually noticed it come back (really once it gets cold out, some temperature related expanding/contracting kinda thing)

Hope it helps you guys out
