How many of you self installed a TT (or S/C)...?
This is a bit of a different thread. I'd like to know how many of you self installed your forced induction system. Mainly twin turbos as I am about to start installing mine over the next couple weeks. I have a STS TT system. If I can't sell it in the next few weeks then it is going on the car. And I would like to know your experiences with your system.
Here are some questions I have: How smooth did it go? Were the instructions clear and easy to follow? Any snafus or problems (be honest)? Did you screw up anything? What was the most difficult part of the install? Did you have help? Did you have to abandon and tow it to a shop (lol)? Would you recommend this? Would you do it again? How long did it take? In your opinion, where was it on a scale from 1 (super easy) to 10 (super difficult)? Any power tools, lifts, etc? How good of a wrench turned are you? Just some questions I would like to see answered. Thanks for your time and input!! Please, no pissing match, lol!! |

The kits are made to be installed with no fabrication. Very straight forward as long as you follow the instructions and have some kind of mevhanical skills. I installed full exhaust and blower kit in my garage with no special tools.

I have been looking over the install manual over the past few days and picturing how I'll do it. It seems easy. I have a STS TT kit that mounts on the axle-back. The instructions are straight forward and very complete, concise, and comprehensive. Anyone else out there do an install like this?!

I did everything in my signature myself. The only thing I had someone else do was the tune. I even cut an access door for the fuel pump so it could be changed easley. I guess you could say I am fairly handy with a wrench.
You can do it yourself, just follow the directions and if you hit a snag just reach out.

I would rate myself a shade tree mechanic. With only basic tools. I do things like LT installs, exhaust, and some suspension work.
I did not install my AGP kit. But after looking it over in retrospect I am sure I could have done it myself. But also after looking at how Jannety worked my installation over, I may not have the patience they applied to the job. They carefully routed and secured everything they could away from heat and carefully wrapped things they could not reroute. Very clean. Better Than I would have done. They also had much more experience with electronics than my basic spaghetti wiring. You will spend a good deal of time climbing under and over the car. A lift would help a great deal. Not sure about the STS kit, but I think you could install the AGP kit on ramps. Also having a standing platform to work under the hood while the car is on ramps would be a big plus along with a helper. I am not a big fan of spending a lot of time under the car on jack stands.
