Dealers, don't be so quick to judge someone
A few weeks back I stopped to a local dealer to see what they had and take one for a ride. They didn't have one but I talked to the salesman told him I was going to place an order in September but I wanted to take one for a ride, he said they were getting one in within the next week or so.
So yesterday my son and I drove by the dealership and low and behold there was a red one sittin there, so we pulled in and went to have a look. Not only was it Red w/black stripes it was a 2SS (not what I wanted but good for a test ride) So anyway after what seem like forever one of the salesmen gets off his dead a** and walked outside, I asked if so and so was in but he had gone for the day, I asked about takin it for a ride he said sure RIGHT AFTER we strike a deal and get all your credit info. I'm like WTF, I was going to order one from you but I'm sure someone else will take my money. The dude shrugged his shoulders and walked away from us. Needless to say I will not be stopping in Linwood,MI to be buying ANYTHING. So we went another 15 miles and took a 2LT for a ride now I can't wait for September. For record the first time I showed up there I was driving a newer GMC van and looking respectable, when we stopped the second time I was driving my beat up old pickup truck. |

I test drove one but it was from the dealer I ordered well after I placed my order. Either way if a dealer wants to sell a car they should provide a test drive. Some people are just very close minded. I can understand not allowing test drives for ZR-1 vettes but other than that I don't see why it would be a problem.

I was a manager at a Ford and a Chevrolet store. For 10 years total. If one of my sales guys pre qualified you like that and I found out. You were their last "up". No need of judging by looks. Not only bad business, a bad personal trait to have. Don't want that type around me.

Am I the only one who really doesn't see much issue with the test-drive part?
Now, a V6 --no problem test dive it all you want. But I wouldn't want my SS, special-ordered or picked off the lot, "test-driven" by anyone. It could easily be that was someones ordered car. Or perhaps, it was a pre-order that fell through. Either way, I see no issue with not wanting to let anyone test drive the SS who wasnt committed to buying one. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that every tom, dick and henry would want and try to test drive it, if not to actually buy one but just to see for themselves, form an opinion and possibly to just say.,.,.ya..I drove one... |

I do not blame them for not letting anyone drive an SS, people that spend 40 Grand do not want a car that others have driven. But he could have handled it better, he sounds like a real jerk.

Good for you. They had a bad attitude and lost business. That's how it should be.

I agree. The rednecks are coming out of the woodwork to rod the piss out of a car they have no intention on buying. It wastes the salesman's time and puts unneccessary miles on someone's car. I think they could simply ask that EVERYONE go through the paperwork in order to test drive it. Once the market is saturated, and the cars are all over and not sold, then let anyone test drive'm.
Think about it from the business owners standpoint... |

This no test drive issue is nothing new across all makes and models!! When something new comes out dealerships will push the " It's the hottest thing going" card and not let anyone drive it. Hell back in 2005 I think it was, I couldn't test drive an RX-8 when it first came out......so I went and bought something else. Bottom line is after they have been out for awhile there will be 100's of them available and you can test drive whatever you want at that time. GM is not building a limited run car, just a new model that will take some time for production to catch up on is all.

i don't see GM cranking out SS's and letting them sit on lots.
i think what you'll see, is once the SS's are fulfilled, they'll concentrate on putting out v-6's to put out on the lots, because if the camaro succeeds it will be due to the v-6 buyers, and NOT the SS owners. Let's face it, not everyone has the funds to buy a v8. i BARELY got into my SS with my payment, so i know how it feels. |
