What did you pay for your cam? Was it worth?

Like the title states, however I'm more leaning towards fellow L99 owners such as myself.

LS3 owners need not apply you guys make me jealous with your cam costs.

Anyways... Did you guys VVT or LS3 conversion?

In for answers. I seek the wisdom of those with cams. Teach me, teach me.

But I hear it's best to keep VVT since it's hot and you can scream VTECCCCCCC when it kicks in.

If I had a L99, I'd definitely keep the VVT active but ditch the AFM assembly all together. A potent VVT cam with supporting mods (full exhaust, tune etc) and a set of sticky tires with a good converter will yield a very quick car. Look @ the fast list and you will see what I mean.

We're still on the fence about VVT or not on the 5th Gens. We haven't seen enough low end to say for certain that one is better than the other. You are going to spend roughly $4,000 to have this done correctly. Just ship it to me ;-)

All the best,

I have someone offering a free ls9 cam. I'm not sure if I should take it. Any info about how that would work? How hard is install? Is it compatible with my stock l99?

Lol at $4k

Go to a reputable local shop and they'll cut a grand off that price at least.

A cam is like a custom suit. A great deal on a 42 Long isn't a good fit for a 38 Short even if it is free.

Some want a dyno queen big number, some want a high RPM number. Me, I like big broad fat torque and HP curves. I want a driver's cam.

What do you want?

Forget cost of parts but that should be close to equal anywhere you go. Labor was 1300 for L99 cam and converter install... guy south of SA is working on my car.

Pm me if you want details

Yeah, this... For $4k I'm getting a new oil pump, stage 2 BTR cam kit, long tubes with high flow cats and a full dyno tune.

Definitely wouldn't want some dyno queen numbers, I have an L99 and I'm not looking to have anything crazy done. Might replace the torque converter though just to help.

I would basically like something that has some decent street manners and wont destroy my engine but with a nice lope.

Not sure if nightfury is too aggressive or not, but something with a lope like that.
