LT Headers and Emissions Tests
The guys with LT headers in Harris, Brazoria and Galveston will eventually be faced with emissions testing to get there inspection sticker. I would love to get LT's, but not if it is going to cause me trouble at inspection time.
I know the exhaust will pass, but will they hook up to the car's ECM and see diagnostic problems? I understand that with LT's the cats are moved back and don't heat up quick enough to satisfy the ECM. Do you get a tune to cancel any thrown codes to pass? I read about O2 sensor extensions, what do they do? Am I doomed to not have LT headers because I live in Brazoria county? What are you guys with LT's going to do? |

we install them here all the time and we are in the dfw area
you will deff need a tune with long tubes to keep the light from coming on we have no had any issues with any of the cars we have done in the past passing emissions as long as you have the high flow cats and the tune |

i think california is the only state that actually hooks a sniffer up to the exhaust to see if it is a "gross polluter" or not.

to my knowledge here in the dfw are at least the newer cars that are obdII they just plug into it at the obd port i have not seen them put the sniffer in the newer vehicles and on my trucks that are newer all they have done is plug into the port
but like on my 89 the put the sniffer in the exhaust but i have no trouble passing i have a ls1 in it with long tubes and highflow cats and have not had a single issue |
