TERRIBLE MPG on my 2LT

I know these types of cars aren't meant to be fuel-efficient, but I find it pretty ridiculous that they are allowed to advertise this car at 29 Highway MPG, when my average has been 16.4 MPG. I didn't expect to get 29, but I definitely didn't expect 16 either.

And I'm not even driving aggressively or anything. WTF?

I get 15 mpg with 95% city driving. All stop signs and stop lights.

On the freeway I get 26 mpg.

I have been as low as 11mpg... but that was with a lot of power take-offs and teaching my wife to drive stick.

I get about 18-20 on average from fillup to fillup.

29 is the average on THE HIGHWAY.

If all you drive is highway, I'd be concerned...

If you are driving mainly city, it ain't that bad.

Do this....

Next time, do you absolute BEST to lay off the accelerator as much as possible and work at going nothign BUT the speed limit. See what happens (and reset your mpg of course).

I get all over the board...since my driving habits vary easily...

My wife's Toyota Corolla gets 35mpg if you don't go over 2500 rpm's until 4th. Every 500 additional rpm's, it drops at least 3 mpg.

Try your best not going over 2500 rpm's & let us know what gas mileage you're getting.

He's asking about the gas mileage. I gave him advice, if he follows it then he will know there's a problem if it's still horrible...geeze =|

I will get 31 on the Interstate with cruise set at 70 without a/c and that is the average of about 50 miles.

You haven't even had it a month yet. How many miles do you have on it? Is it broken in yet? A brand new engine isn't going to get it's best mileage until it's broken in and has some miles on it.

What tire pressures are you running? You can safely go 4-6 psi above the recommended and pick up 1-2 mpg that way. If the recommended tire pressure is 32 run it at 37 for example.

29 mpg is what you can expect to get on the highway/freeway running at 60 mph in top gear, not around town in stop and go driving. 16-18 is about normal for around town; that's what I'm getting in my SS.
