Elite has offered documentations that presumably would hold up in court, should it ever get to that level.

A post I was hoping to not have to make (GM blocks warranty repair)

I have talked to a few different dealers who have said that had I taken my car to them that I would be back on the road already and this mess never would have happened.

One of the main things that truly bugs me about this is how the dealership (some can be complete crap) ran your engine and ruined it knowing there was an issue. Then claiming it was the catch can.

While I can understand the catch can being a claim (even though it's stupid in my opinion) I do not understand how the dealership can claim it was something other than their own ignorance and stupidity that ruined a perfectly fine engine.

I personally would like to see GM make the dealership eat the cost for their own brilliance at starting and running an engine that had a low oil pressure warning, although, I may not understand the story completely.

I've just been screwed over by a dealership before messing up my car and then not owning up to their mistakes and trying to blame it on me. And that pisses me off more than anything.

I truly hope this gets resolved for you in a satisfactory manner.

Glad to hear you're still fighting it. Best of luck to you.

I believe this is just GM's way of hiding behind a legal hurdle. They know the law. They also know how much it'll take for you to legally fight them. It's bullying of the consumer by the big corporation and it's wrong. As much as it'll cost you in court, GM would pay a pretty penny to their legal team as well. I'd bet it'd be much more than the cost of your repairs. They're counting on you backing down.

A lot of people (myself included) have not been able to identify in MMA the diference in replacement parts, and performance parts. However, I did find this:

"....Under the act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not automatically void a vehicle manufacturer's original warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warranty, or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure...."

Also, I DO NOT see anywhere in the warranty that says it will be void for using aftermarket, performance enhancing devices.

Here are two more resources provided by SEMA. SEMA is the primary lobbying group for after-market performance and their interests are directly threatened by this case of warranty denial. Their SEMA Action Network is designed to directly respond to cases such as this.

I was given this contact information for the OP to discuss the issue as it contains aspects that are clearly illegal, or at least out of order (IE GM needs to show the part in question, catch can, caused the failure)

Ashley Ailsworth SEMA Government Affairs at 202-783-6007 ext. 19.

Disputes in this area usually boil down to arguments over facts and technical opinions, rather than arguments over interpretations of the law.

Good to hear there's still some fight in you! I was really disappointed to hear you were just going to end up eating the cost to get your car on the road (although I completely understand your position in that regard).

Here's to hoping that all goes well and you get the resolution you deserve!

THE ENTIRE REASON HE SHOULD FIGHT!! There is a TSB on the oil pumps knowing they fail!!!! The entire Camaro 5th generation has TSB's from 2010-2015 on their motors with a known bad oil pump design and you have to be ready for a failure every time you start your car.

Hmm reading this thread kind of makes you wonder about why GM might consider Catch Cans a problem....
