Best budget axle back?
I've got a Dynomax currently installed. There's now a rattle in one of them I guess something broke inside. Budget is a little tight. Mid pipes are removed, stock manifolds & cats. Muffler delete is probably a little too loud for the neighborhood.

If you have stock manifolds and cats, the muffler deletes are not that loud. I actually thought when I did that it sounded like a sports car. Now I have LTs and no cats and it freaking loud!!!

If the mid pipe resonators weren't removed, I'd agree with you. But I cut mine out when I got the Dynomax set b/c it was too quite. Maybe I could remove them & try it out to see if it's tolerable.

Budget axleback?
Legato. Very high quality and sounds great. That was my first axleback for this car. It is a chambered muffler and sounds similar to the Flowmaster American Thunder, very similar muffler design. Brand new $169 (2010 - 2013) and $309.99 for (2014-2015). Not sure why...I think maybe the hanger placement is different? I paid $299 for mine a few years ago, so the price came down bigtime. But for $169 for your model year for a complete axle back setup, including polished double wall tips, clamps, and lifetime warranty? You cannot beat it. I loved mine, just wanted to go a bit louder at the time. I may put them back on again. https://legatoperformance.com/

For the price of most axle back exhausts, why not get a 3" catback from Speed Engineering?

Based on the comments in this thread I figured I’d try the Legato axle back, especially at $150 shipped. I was contemplating just a straight pipe based on some opinions but I just didn’t like the idea of basically going muffler-less. Also, I just hated the way the stock mufflers look so even if the sound was exactly the same, it was worth it for appearance sake.
Install was straight forward, except definitely just cut at 7” back from the hanger instead of the 9”. It does warn you to check before you cut. It’s kind of cramped under there so be careful you don’t hit the control arm, differential or axle. Use a new, short metal blade and it cuts right through the stock pipe. Cut one side at a time and test fit before you cut the other. Make sure the clamp doesn’t block the diff drain plugs. After I cut both sides and test fitted I wanted to see how it sounded with no mufflers. Maybe it just because I’m older but to me it sounded loud and crappy. I’m glad I didn’t go the straight pipe route. The Legatos have a nice, slightly louder than stock sound with a nice rumble. Directly behind the car you can definitely hear the difference but inside with the windows up not so much. No telling how long these will hold up but I don’t put a lot of miles on this car, especially in rain or snow. The quality seems decent and the fit was fine. If you’re on a budget these aren’t bad at all.

After a couple of months with the Legato axlebacks, looks like I’m going to take them off. They look great and sound great in lower gears, actually a bit loud for my old ears, but I learned about the term “drone” which occurs right about 2000 rpm in sixth gear. Might not bother some people but it’s irritating as hell to me.
I might try the Borla touring once I get a few bucks. I hate the look of the stock suitcases but I may have to just put them back on.

Had this as my first axle back on my 2011 SS. The drone wasn't bad at all.

I reinstalled them after my cam install but it was still too quiet for my tastes. They stayed on overnight and put the Outlaws back on the next day. They do sound very good though. This will likely sound stupid, but they (Legatos) change the way the car feels to me at lower rpms. Almost a feels little torquier, but likely it's in my head.

I was in a similar boat last year. I went with rev9 mufflers. I had LTs and straight piped. it was a little much. Car now has a nice tone and isn't retarded loud.
