We Raced The Big Red Camaro Against the 2014 Z/28 Camaro and Crashed One!
Hot Rod Magazine is teasing their Big Red vs Z/28 battle: READ MORE HERE
We Raced The Big Red Camaro Against the 2014 Z/28 Camaro and Crashed One! Which one, and who won? You'll have to check in Monday to find out! Written by: Elana Scherr on March 21 2014 10:39 AM 2014-Z28-Camaro-VS-1969-Big-Red-Camaro Chevrolet went all out in the design of its 2014 Z/28 Camaro. Details of the track-focused design have been all over the Internet, from the fact that it can accelerate so hard it was spinning the tire on the rim–requiring the engineers to develop a scruffing process to give the wheel a little more tooth to hold on to its rubber shoes, to the discovery that the standard Chevy Bowtie emblem was blocking a considerable amount of airflow to the engine bay, resulting in the hollow Z/28-only “Flowtie.” If you need more proof that the Z/28 is intended to shame the competition at track days across the world, surely the fact that the traction control has special provisions for the needs of a driver getting airborne at speed should convince you that this is no “scoop and stripes” performance package. Anything with “Flying Car Logic” impresses us, and if we can’t test it at the Nurburgring, we are pretty sure we can get all four off the ground on Los Angeles’s 405 Freeway. We’ll get back to you on that. But you’re probably wondering about our attention-grabbing headline. Did we really pit R.J. Gottlieb’s famous ’69 Camaro “Big Red” against the 2014 Chevy z/28, and did one of them really crash? Yup. We’re under embargo though, so you’re going to have to wait until Monday, March 24th to find out what happened. Check back with us here, at www.HOTROD.com. I saw Randy Pobst's smiling face in the drivers seat with a helmet on in one of the photos
I just noticed, he's sitting in some sort of hopped-up, non-stock Mustang! Can't wait to see what this is all about!

Race on Sunday, sell on Monday. If 2014 Z/28 wins, the legend begins.

The way it's being promoted its gotta be a win for GM.
On another note, it's unbelievable how foolish and ignorant the comments on FB are (see bottom of article). Glad I've never used it.

Just found that, reads to me like they are setting up for a "loss" to the new Z. Can't wait for Monday, like a kid on Christmas Eve.

I am going to go out on a limb here . . . .
Section 9, pages 39 - 43 in the Z/28 Owners Manual explain the TCS, Stabiltrak, PTM, and Selective Ride Control settings. Given both cars were in competent hands, given this was not a drag strip competition but a track racing competition, and given there were no other cars (aka: traffic) on the course at the time, I have a hard time believing the 2014 Z/28 was the car that crashed. So, I’m going with 2014 Z/28 win. |
