Looks like GM set to stop computer tuning

The 2020 Corvette and Camaro my no longer allow the computer to be retuned .

So GM is going to go down the path that John Deere took?

I hope people start to pull together and fight this on the "Right-to-repair" acts that need to become law.

When you buy something, you should be able to do with it what you want.

Quite different between fixing a John Deere and breaking in & hacking an ECU

What's the difference?

Hooking up software to the PCM to command various functions to troubleshoot a car will probably be shot down too with this encryption.

It's not always about just "hacking" a car. It's easier for me to have my HPTuners force idle at 2000RPM if I'm troubleshooting something, than bother my wife to sit with her foot on the throttle while I listen around.

As John Deere has stated.... You don't own it, You just buy the rights to use it

A lot of manufacturers encrypt the ECUs. Nissan has been doing it since at least 2004.
Some could be cracked then, others, not at all. No one ever got into the Nissan Sentra SpecV 2.5 I had.

When the 5th gen was released people moaned about having a counter and voiding warranty, but at least you could if you wanted.

IMHO this is BS ,I bought it and can do what I want with it. If it voids the warrantee when I mod it ,I will fix it if it breaks on my own . Modifying a car to my needs and wants is my choice . I paid for it ,and can do as I please with it. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness is what it is all about.

Ridiculous. Like others have said, if I choose to modify it I should be able to!

Its like GM is trying to make everyone ditch their products between their ugly designs and now stuff like this. I've been a die-hard GM guy my whole life, but they have lost me on any new car or truck they built after 2015-2016.

Its been coming for some time. The 6th gen ZL1 took HP tuners a few months to crack. Same with the Z06.... and the ZR1 took over a year to finally crack. The encrypted ECU isn't new but GM is continually making it harder to decode.

I'm with you guys. I bought the car and when I take on the responsibility of modifying it, then what I break is on me.
