Black screen, no volume control, tire pressure
Thank you in advance to any help, much appreciated!
I have a 2016 SS Camaro. A few months ago a tire pressure sensor gradually went out. Then another, then another, then the last one. When some were out and others working, the car would apply some kind of "safety precautions" on its own, often braking strangely without me touching the brake pedal, engine braking through corners, etc. I assume this is traction control or VSC? Ideas, anyone? After all 4 tire pressure sensors read dead, this behavior stopped, and the car always drives normally. As well, now my touchscreen goes black all together (with or without backup camera still working), or works partially but the volume and mute don't work, or works just fine, RANDOMLY!!!! Any ideas what's broken? Are the TPS and other problems related? HMI module? I've tried to research, but mostly found conflicting info on the web. I'd like to save myself the expense of a GM diagnosis if possible. Anyone else have these problems? |

First try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 20 mins or so. Reconnect and check it out.

To my knowledge the sensors will only light up the dash when they're low/dead/etc and not interfere with other systems. I used to run a set of winter wheels without TPMS on another car (Mustang) and it would only light the dash without consequence.

If the battery isn't strong enough to keep the capacitors throughout the system from discharging, it could cause this condition. May be time for a new battery

Car starts fine every time, and nothing else indicates low battery performance. I could check it with my multi meter, but I'm pretty sure the battery is fine.

Sounds like a weak or bad ground to me, or try anti corrosion spray on the negative terminal? make sure when its tight you cant spin it on the battery post? id check the negative cable where it grounds and the connections near the battery, ive had this kind of thing happen on my Silverado's

Your car may start, but if the voltage to the logic circuits is too low, weird stuff will happen.
If your battery is the original, change it before going overboard. |
