How can I stop my manual forcing me into 4th gear?

Hi all,

I'm getting a bit hacked off with the "manual" gearbox always trying to force me to select 4th gear after setting off gently in 1st. It usually happens when driving in town and wont let me select second for about 3 seconds. It seems to be electronically moving a piece of metal in the way of second gear so that you can easily select 4th (but I don't want to).

Does anyone know if there is a way to stop it from doing this?

Cheers,
Damian.

You can buy fairly reasonably priced skip shift eliminator programmes from a couple of American tuning companies at least. If you go back to the main forum, and type in the search for "skip shift eliminators" there are a number of threads on the issue, which seems to cheese off a lot of people.

Thanks everyone. The solution offered by Apex motorsport looks pretty reasonable. I'll have a look around but I'm quite relieved it's only that much.

Cheers,
Damian.

Hi all,

So, I ended up buying the skip shift eliminator from gmpartshouse.com. GM Parts House is charging $23 for the skip shift eliminator but the USPS post costs $29! Weirdly, they have asked for a copy of my ID to complete the sale (which is something that I've never come across).

Does anyone know if I'm being ripped off for the postage, or is this the going rate?

Cheers,
Damian.

Probably about right for UPS shipping. I ship stuff all over the world, if you ask them, nicely they might label it as 'gift' otherwise you will have import duty & vat to pay as well. They will not normally clear it through customs till' you pay up.

When it lights up on the dash just speed up a little more in first before shifting into second. The light will go off and will go into seco d just fine. That's the cheapest and easiest fix.

Correctamundo! If you are traveling in 1st gear, once you get to 20mph, you'll be able to shift into 2nd gear. I do believe owner's manual addresses this as a "gas saving" feature that kicks in once your transmission temp reaches a certain temp.
