aftermarket remote start?

I didnt get the remote start option because it was like $500 extra and my brother can install it for me for free but can you install an aftermarket starter on the camaro? mine is a V6 Manual, i never had a problem doing this with my cobalt but the cars these days with all their anti-theft features...

The remote start is not available from the factory with a manual transmission.....so that was not an option for you from the factory at any price.

There are aftermarket remote starts for manuals, but I think it's pretty involved with bypasses etc. probably over $1k to do...wouldn't be worth it for me.
There were a few threads about this on here about a year ago, do a search you'll find some info here, I'm sure...

Yes, it can be done. There are bypasses for the clutch with the remote start, but you have to leave it in neutral, with park brake on. It won't start if not in neutral.

I know of a guy who put an aftermarket remote start into his 350Z. As we all hustled through the parking lot to get off post for lunch, we heard this loud crunch and found that the guy had tried to start his 350Z in gear (oops..) and it lurched forward, T-boning my buddy's junker S-10 Blazer. It completely demolished the 350Z's body kit and cracked his carbon fiber hood. The blazer had a decent ding in the front quarter panel but that was it.

I think that guy regretted his remote start at that point. Just something to consider.

No reputable installer would install a remote start on a manual trans car due to the liability.

I recently talked to a friend of mine who installed a remote start on a client's manual SS. In the end, as one of the guys pointed out already, it cost the guy over $1K to do it. Not worth it in my opinion, but if you have the money it can always be done.

Ahh, I stand corrected. That's a good fail-safe for it to start in neutral.

Be prepared for something like this to happen if you install a remote start on a manual: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/25/f...stomers-musta/

It can be done. It removed a stang from the road once before.

I was actually taking to BestBuy people about adding remote start. They told me that there is a way to do it and a failsafe way to make sure you remember to leave your car in neutral everytime you turn off the car. I decided against it because of the price and how much work goes into it just to be able to remote start.

STOP! Why would you submit your car to them?

it can be done. no reason to not get a 1 mile+ paging alarm + remote start combo in the process though. I would look into any of the viper brands (clifford/viper/python) - quality systems.

Make sure you know what you are talking about before posting information that will not help the OP.
Remote starts CAN be installed on manual transmission cars.
There are bypasses for the clutch, and these systems will ONLY ACTIVATE if the car is in neutral. The way this is done is there is a sequence at shutdown. This sequence, which includes setting the parking break and leaving the car in neutral, opening the door and arming the system, will only allow the car to start the next time the start is activated if this exact sequence is followed. If any variable is changed from the time of the shutdown sequence (unlocking the door, opening the door, trunk, windows) the failsafe is activated and the car will not start. If you are having the system installed at a certified car installation location, it is IMPOSSIBLE for the car to start in gear, and hit something. Times have changed, they have everything figured out today!

Be prepared though, it is not cheep. I have a viper 5901 installed in mine and it works flawlessly. I have never had a problem with it.
