Surely there are other factors that should be considered... no one lap on ANY track can be the only consideration of a car's merit.

But the car did run a 7:31.9 in the dry, its just not official w/ video GM has the telemetry. I don't think GM has ever been shown to lie about their ring times. Unlike Nissan who has done all kinds of modifications and used different start stop lines before everyone else did.

Maybe you didn't read that they did a lot of laps some in traffic and all were sub 8 minutes.

Missing my point... Mr Bird. It is just that this thread is full of fail.. a lap time or lap times does not a car make. Sure it is a gauge... and obviously important enough that GM spends big money going there... but I bet it is meant to be a development tool more so than a sales tool.

Telling you that my 1LE ran a sub 3 minute VIR tells you almost nothing about the car.

I think what is most misunderstood (I don't fully understand it myself) is that they were "under the gun" to satisfy an elaborate 24 HR test, of which the so-called glory lap at the Ring was a scheduled part.

It had to be done under some scheduled guidelines or rules, rain or shine.

They run the 24 hour test over a couple of days. When the car comes off track they can change tires and brake pads and top off fluids. If any repair is required, the test starts over.

From what I can gather, during the MFG week, there is a professional courtesy at work to only shoot in car video after 4 or 5 o'clock. This allows all MFGs to test yet to be released vehicles without concern of of them showing up on an in car video during the bulk of track hours. If you run after a certain time in the afternoon you know there will be video.

I couldn't understand why there wouldn't be video of the 7:31 lap, but that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

Corvette on ring modded.

Just thought I'd post another GM bad boy destroying the ring.
