What does your family/friends think of modding?

I am curious to know what your family and friends think of your modding?

For me, my family doesn't get it at all! I am 19 and live with my dad while I am still in school and he just doesn't understand it, he thinks it is a huge waste of money. Often times I won't tell him the real price of my mods because I know he will be irritated if he really knew. And my mom always says this to me "Why did you get your Camaro if you are just gonna change so much of it"

My older sister on the other hand, probably doesn't understand it but she puts up with it! She is my go to person when it comes to my mods, I run everything by her before buying anything just to make sure that I am not being too impulsive and to make sure that it will look good! She is the only one who knows my full mod list and the real amount of money I have spent on my Camaro. She probably is the only one willing to put up with me because she is an elementary school teacher and is used to putting up with nonsense all day!

So what does your family and friends think of it? Do they think you are crazy? Or do they get it?

Female family members don't get it, they ask the same thing your mom does.

Male family members support it, brother in law has a 2011 mustang GT, uncle has a 82 corvette with a 383 and gears, 2 cousins have crotch rockets, etc.

Friends... Ehhh depends on the friends, some get it, while others are jealous and make rude off the wall comments.

Female family members don't get it...as long as it has gas in the tank and gets them from point a to b that's all they care about which is all they need really


My dad understands...kind of who got me into modding my camaro.....he had a '94 TT Supra he modded out tastefully that was sweet along with a C5 Zo6 and now a c6 Zo6

My dad and mom get it but sometimes tell me to "just wait" and some friends are really into modding cars and some call me stupid for even buying a $41,000 car

I lie to everyone in my family (but my wife, she knows all) about the cost.... Yeah, those vertical door. Only 400 installed. Painting all the parts, oh that was only 100. You like the taillights too? How much you ask? 75 bucks!


I don't need to hear their gasps and what the hell for comments.

My wife has been pretty supportive about putting money into the car.

We kept Onstar and XM. I have a garage full of washing buckets, microfiber towels, and detailing stuff.

I think I am pretty lucky.

If you like it get it. If you are paying for it and you like it, but they don't oh well. You can't please everyone all the time. It's your car do what YOU want.

As far as im concerned my Camaro is stock....

my camaro is stock too, except for the ZL1 Front Fascia and 35% Tints, (will put CAI Cold Air Intake and that's it) mostly because mods won't bring the car price up when I will be selling it, and I will be in 2-2.5 years. :P
