Cool Initial thoughts on my Turbo Camaro

Well… I added a Precision 7675 turbo over the winter (Huron kit).

The car has the following mods:
2010 SS M6
Stock LS3 Bottom end 24k miles
AI 280cc LS3 heads
VR 235/2351 .6xx/.6xx 115LSA turbo cam
Ported LS3 Intake
NW 102 TB
1000cc injectors
ADM FPCM
ZL1 Fuel Pump
SLP underdrive Pulley
No cats
Borla ATAK

Car made ~460rwhp N/A before the turbo… in N/A form 1st gear was useless as it would smoke the tires above 4krpm from a roll.

Now… I have street tuned the current setup with the turbo… dialed in the A/F 11.0-11.2 and my timing is as low as 11.5 degrees at pk trq and 15 deg at pk hp while running 7psi. As you can see, the tune is conservative until I can get on the dyno in September and dial it in with more boost and meth.

My impressions are that the car is a slug LOL… compared to N/A. I fully expect this car to be around 600-650rwhp at 8psi, but at the current 7psi setting I don’t think I am even at 500rwhp. It won’t even spin the stock street tires in 1st gear @ 7psi!!

The car pulls smooth with no knock... I dunno, maybe it pulls so smooth that the SOTP feeling is deceiving.

That’s all for now… I’ll post back up with results from the dyno.

Jon

Too much fuel for that boost level - target 11.5-12 AFR at most.

Timing seems a bit timid, but each car setup, it depends.

As for lighting the tires up, also depends on tires, surface, how the boost kicks in.

Really looks like the tune to me.

yeah, I do have it super conservative on purpose. I am waiting to get on the dyno to lean it out a little.

Ok, report back after a good tune has been performed.

Its all in the tune man, I only run 12.5 degrees of timing, so don't get caught up on that.

You need some proper tires, I would recommend some drag radials at a min.

You don't really think tweaking a/f and adding a pound of boost is worth 100-150 rwhp, do you?

Don't forget to de-tune the Torque Managements. They'll slow you down for sure, if you don't.

I'll double check the torque management in the tune, but I manually turned off traction control and stability control from inside the car before the run (holding TC button down)

I am skeptical, I think more gains could be had in addin timing.

Almost all the turbo cars I've tuned or helped with run 10-12 degrees, and crank out 800+ with ease.

Dyno rental is set up for 9/3, and I will be tuning. I will try and dial it in without the meth first, then add the meth how much more I can push it.

Honestly, I was expecting 650rwhp @8-9psi... but I feel like I am a bit aways. I'll post up results after the dyno.

7psi is pretty low boost, 11.0 afr is too rich as well, not surpirsed it doesnt "feel" fast. Bring that boost up more, lean it out to mid/high 11s afr

Back when i was on 93 octane 10psi made 580whp on the stock cam and it was enough to break the tires loose from a second gear roll at 40mph before I put a drag radials on

Who specd that cam that is really aggrsssive for your setup, overkill imo...

Are you in Bridgewater MA area? If you are going to be tuning on Don's dyno, he has one of the stingiest ones around.
