Advise for a guy new to Track Driving..

2014 ZL1 A6

Plan on doing some time with Hooked On Driving once I get setup...

Right now I have waiting for install

Ron Davis Radiator and HX
LF SC Resv.
Stainless Steel Brake Lines and some kind of DOT 4 Fluid... Possibly Amsoil or Motul ... Have t decided yet
ADM Transcooler and B&M Deep Trans Pan.

ATM Stock rotors/pads and wheels/tires
Ported TB/CAI

Also ATI w/ 5% pully waiting to go on as well.

Looking to have some fun not get super serious at this point, but I'm concerned with heat/longevity.

Was planning on running a 80/20 setup with dexcool/distilled water

I'd say; Why wait? Except Dot4 brake fluid, you don't need all these modifications to go at a Hooked On Driving event. The ZL1 is already well prepared for those track days...just go and learn to drive the car.

Ditto what Mikamaro said! Your Z is ready to rock. Get some nice high temp brake fluid in there and you're ready to go. Make sure you've got good tires and a Snell rated helmet too.

Me three, lol. Just keep an eye on your oil temperature and keep it under 300. And make sure that you have freshly changed full synthetic oil.

The stock brakes are fantastic, those front 6 pistons will hold up just fine when complemented with Dot 4 fluid.

If you get hooked on tracking like I did and wish to continue, I think adding cooling is a great idea.

One quick question, how many miles are on your ZL1?

Your pads should be fine. I am a huge advocate of using Catrol SRF brake fluid. It is the gold standard in brake fluid. The reason is the wet boil temp. SRF has a wet boil that is as high as many other top rated brake fluids dry boil.

I'd leave any power improvement mods alone/in their boxes on the workbench until after you get some seat time on the track.

I've heard good things about SRF ... Any tips on bleeding the brakes and how often does the fluid need to be changed out?

I'll look up how to do threads in the mean time.

The best way is with a GM Tech II or USD tool set to 2010 Corvette. It cycles the ABS pump during the bleed so you can get a full fluid change. With SRF, once a year will be good for light to medium HPDE work.

JusticePete's recommendations are the best ones and what we should aspire to. That said, if you've never been on the track, it is doubtful you'll need the capabilities of something like SRF. Motul 600 works great for us less experienced people and is way cheaper, and dry boiling parts (worthwhile probably only for the first event, but not beyond) are about the same. I wouldn't criticize someone who decided to start there if you aren't made of money. As you get better, you may need to change fluid more often and/or move to something like the SRF.

The Tech II definitely is the proper way to bleed brake fluid to cycle the ABS as noted. That said, I'll just point out that none of my Camaro/Corvette track acquaintances own one, and most of us do our own brake fluid changes. So, feel free to draw your own conclusions.
