2018 Camaro V6 5k miles needs new cat?

So I’ve had the car about 3-4 months. Had a check engine light come on and dealer installed a new o2 sensor. Got the car back and after about 30 miles the light came back on again. Took it back in and dealer said they called Detroit and they advised them to swap out the cat. Just got it back today so we shall see. Should I be worried? I've been reading that cats should last lifetime of the car and if they fail it’s a underlying problem. Any opinions?

You've got a warranty if you need it but it seems like a odd issue for sure. I wonder what code popped up. Without the code its hard to say.

Yeah hopefully they can figure out what’s wrong. Your Cat shouldn’t be out already.

Emissions warranty is 7 years.

So you don't need to worry about out of pocket until 2025.

good thing its New! keep an eye on ANYTHING out of the ordinary when driving, if anything at all happens, take it in, get them to check it, see if they can find the underlying problem

Sometimes things just happen. I wouldn't worry. It is a process of elimination diagnosing modern automobiles. Have patience

I couldn't disagree more. I find it's harder to diagnose a car that isn't computerized. The computers take 100% of the guess work out of it for me. It allows me to concentrate my diagnosis on a specific area of the vehicle. He had a hasty diagnosis.

If your codes are a P0420 or 430, then its possible you could have bad gas throwing a lot of carbon on your O2 sensors. Run some Seafoam in your next tank of gas and fill up with Premium.

I have a 2019 Camaro V6 RS with only 10k miles and also got a P0420. They will be installing a new cat next week, but I too am concerned about an underlying problem.
What questions should I be asking? morenm01, did your ever come back again?

My cat was replaced under warranty due to cracks. Diagnosis was road damage.
