Chrysler has announced that all 15 of the employees who were apparently caught drinking and smoking pot during their lunch break by a Fox 2 News Detroit crew have been suspended indefinitely without pay. The workers from the company's Jefferson North Assembly Plant were spotted drinking heavily during their lunch breaks over a ten-day period. Chrysler says that all of the individuals had been identified and relieved of their duty within 36 hours of the company learning of the problem.

The company also says that while the video seems pretty cut-and-dry, it must adhere to its protocol when it comes to removing those workers permanently. Chrysler also stressed that each of its vehicles goes through an extensive quality control system and that it doesn't condone the behavior documented in the news report in any way. Chrysler's Jefferson North plant employs a total 2,500 workers.

ALL JOBS!? I hope not. LOL I'd hate to have my surgeon stop for a highball and a puff midway through my operation.

Well it has been written down, so it must be true!

It happens, Chrysler will handle it just like the rest of Corporate America...therapy, counseling, or termination.

I gotta go, I have to pick up the keg and some green on the way into work. Appearently it is common to do these things at work. Unfortunately my co-workers must not have been aware of this...so figure I will get em started by going into the deep-end with them.

Not so, I employ union workers and they are subject to substance abuse screening. They take drug and alchohol tests at pre hire, for cause and randomly by a third party susbtance abuse monitoring company. Most unions have confidential rehab programs to help their members overcome bad habits.

I have no problems with people drinking and although I wouldn't waste my time or money on pot I could care less if someone else does (in fact I think they should just legalize it and stop wasting my tax dollars fighting a loosing battle against a product thats no worse than cigarettes) but during the middle of a work day?! Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's the way I was raised but you don't do that. You work hard, earn your pay, and when you leave work you do what ever the hell you want. The next day you show up for work ontime and do it again. I'd say kids today don't get it but these were adults.

Do you believe this was the first time these workers that were caught on tape did this activity?

Do you think Chrysler has similar screenings and programs to yours to prevent this activity?
If the answer to this is YES, how do you think they made it around the screenings and tests?

No worries...ok. If it were ok, then Chrysler wouldn't have suspended them. What if it were the QC guys were out there smoking pot and drinking beer? And if QC was so great, how do they always manage to have defects that show up later down the road? That was a BS corporate response to try and do damage control. That's all it was.

It makes no difference to me about their quality (or lack thereof) because I'll never own a piece of Chrysler crap ever again. I made that huge mistake once, but never again. But the public relations fallout that can come out of this might make some people think twice about buying a Chrysler product. And that definitely hurts the bottom line.

I have no problem with anyone zonking themselves into la la land with any drug they choose as long as it doesn't affect anyone but themselves. But these azzholes were driving afterwards potentially putting other sober drivers in harms way and then building a car that could have a structural component fail because of their level of impairment after purchase and end someone's life because these clowns wanted to drink and get high during lunch. They get what they deserve, IMO.

Well since I don't work for Chrystler I can't say for sure, but yes I do believe for cause and random testing are quite the deterrent. There are plenty of products and gimiks to get around the pre hire and sometimes the for cause if they are left unattended and enough time passes before they take the test.

But the random pretty much gets them every time. When their number is up they are escorted to the test facility and not allowed to put their hands in pockets, change clothes and no access to lunch kits, personal bags or backpacks. In the 10 years I've run my business we've had at least half a dozen fail the random and at least as many quit on the spot when they get called. We had a kid pass the pre hire and on his first random got caught with one of those pee in a bag things you keep on you. The temp was not right on his sample and he refused to to retest. So Again yes I do believe it works.

The biggest problem I see is that the UAW hasn't said anything about it (to my knowledge). As soon as they heard about it they should have told Chrysler to fire them.
