Oiling an air filter that doesn't need oil

I have a lingenfelter cold air intake filter and I'm pretty sure when i got it, it recommended to not oil the air filter. But after a couple of years now it seems as if it has lost its Pinkish oily look to it and has taken on more of a light grey color. Im wondering if oiling this filter will harm it in anyway? Ive been using K&N cleaner by itself since i got it and the K&N oil has just been sitting there..

I wouldn't if the manufacturer says not to. Best to buy a replacement filter if you think you need one.
If this is the one you have it says it come with a lifetime oiled filter. Rotofab makes it.

Did the instructions tell you not to oil it because it already came pre-oiled?
If the filter had the pinkish/purple color to it and was oily when you got it, then I would not drive it one more mile since you admitted to cleaning it with K&N cleaner. This would strip all of the oil which is what actually filters the dirt and crud. Without the oil, you are sucking that crap into the intake.

I remember being instructed to clean it with The K&N cleaner. But to not use the oil since it came pre-oiled but i see what your saying.

My question is i guess.. Will it hurt for me to oil it and let it dry for a day or so before re-installing?

Update- I went ahead and just re-oiled it. I doubt it will hurt anything.

If it said pre-oiled, then you MUST oil it after cleaning. Everytime.

Dry filters have no oil on them.

I think a lot of issues come with people re-oiling their own pre-oiled filter & putting too much oil onto filter which then causes issues with MAF sensor getting excess oil on it.
