NT555R's and Rain
Anyone have experience? Looking for the stickiest tires that are still decent in the rain. Toledo gets a decent amount of rain a year. Thanks!

I had them on my 15" as a Daily driver in FL. Rains a lot too. No problem until I left them on too long. As a daily they last about 10-11 months tops (drove about 70 miles a day). They were pretty worn and in a heavy down pour I spun out at 40mph on the Interstate, not pretty. I fault myself as I knew they needed to be replaced. Went with the G2 after and no comparison, wouldn't hook at all through the first 3 gears.
I was just under 600 wheel and the 555R hooked really well. I am going to be purchasing them for my 18" SS next week. |

On my summer rims I still have the F1 assymetric's.... which I heard don't do to well in the rain themselves, and the reviews are so-so... so getting rid of them. I'm more worried about hydroplaning. I can control the throttle, I can't control that, ya know? |

I have had the nt555r tires on my 14 ss sedan, 335D diesel, and my 17 1LE, they’re decent tires for the price, plenty of rain, even some snow driving up to Oregon from California.

In my opinion they’re the best tires for the price. I had Michelin PS4’s on my Camaro when I bought it and I couldn’t justify spending the extra cash for another set. I went with the Nitto g2’s

555R aren't too bad in the rain but you WILL hydroplane on standing water. I've never had PS4S lose control in the rain yet and can still drive somewhat hard in the rain. Really can't do that on a R compound tire. I love 555R for drag radials but had a few sketchy situations in the rain on my Hellcat. I do like Toyo R888R for a everyday tire though.

Let me rephrase that, R888R for everyday low treadwear tire. P4S4 is the best daily tire you can get, period.

I had P4S's on my wrx and loved them, cornered on a razor. Many SS owners say they don't do well in straight line grip however. How well do they hook up in a straight line for you? |

I run the 555r's and coming home from camarofest last year we got caught in a storm and these tires sucks in major rain. I had to slow to 30mph and even that was a little sketchy lol. In dry weather these tires hook pretty good and my car is 600+whp. I don't daily drive my car and it doesn't go out in the rain so that was just bad luck for me but overall i'm happy with them and buying a new set this year.

R888R is more of a track tire and 555R is a drag radial... meaning 555R will have more sidewall flex for launching on a prepped strip but for street tires, I like the R888R much more. Handle better and I personal think they launch on the street better. A tad better in the rain for sure. But if you want to drive hard in the rain, 30k mile life, and still good dry performance, the P4S4 is easily the best but no, you won’t be able to deadhook in it. You’d be lucky to get 8k miles with the R888R, very soft tire. |
