Question Transmission Problems

I was talking to a guy in Advanced Auto Parts today and he said there are tranny problems in the Camaro's.

Something about GM not bolting them in right and the housing splitting because of the force put on it when you stomp on the gas from a dead stop.

Is this true?

His buddy's Camaro broke the tranny with just 347 miles on it.

The only problem I've heard of were the output shafts breaking in some of the early builds, nothing since...

THX for the answers.

I haven't even got mine yet from the dealer and are hearing all these stories about transmission problems or other problems.

So I figured I'd come here for the answers. I know there is A LOT of "Camaro Envy" out there and people just can't stand the fact they can't afford a new one and some of us can.

You generally only hear the complaints on any forum. Consider all the C5s sold, and then look at the number of complaints. Not that bad, especially when compared to some other GM cars like the Solstice. Also...If you want long life out of a tranny, don't floor it from a stop. If you do so repeatedly, expect problems.

There have been quite a few people with the V6 manuals that have complained. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...t=91813&page=8

My transmission has a resonance noise when I get to 68 MPH. It's at its worst when I'm going ~74 in 6th gear.
It's a very high pitched whine. As of yet, there is no fix available from GM.
I've heard of several people with the LS3 and TR6060 transmission with this problem. GM has a bulletin on it, #PI0118.

I really wish they'd come up with a fix. I drive mostly highway and it's very, very annoying.

I believe they were having problems with the trannys when the camaro was first release but since then they have cleared up the problem.

My VIN is 36082. There were some contraint issues with the manual transmissions just prior to mine being built back in Jul-Aug of 2009. No issues with my CGM Camaro.

Mine is FAR from stock and one of the first ones built, I've drag raced it, autocrossed it and have had no problems.

My 2011 is in getting 2nd gear / syncros replaced so no they have not cleared up the problem. 1-2 grind since new.
