Tire rotation for a dealer oil change?

I brought my Camaro in for the free dealer 1st oil change a couple months ago, and I just recently noticed that the front tire TPMS sensors were swapped (left front sensor monitors right front tire). I checked the tires, and lo and behold, they actually swapped the fronts (I could tell because my front right wheel had a slight scuff that is now on the left side). A few QQs:

Do Chevy dealers typically swap tires during a normal oil change? This wasn't in the work order sheet as work completed.

I knew the Camaro tires were not directional, but is there anything wrong with running the tires "backwards"? I would think this extends tire life somewhat, even by a little, rather than leaving each tire in its original corner for the life of the car.

Actually, I'd consider it a good thing. Unless they charged you a ton for it.

Regular rotation can prlong tire life.

Now stop scuffing your tires.

Oh. The rears not as often. They should have reset the sensors though.

I didn't think you could swap front tires because the P-Zero Pereils are uni-directional. And you certainly can't swap front to rear because of the staggered setup.

Basically, if the you have the V6/RS or SS, there is no tire rotation possible.

The P-Zeros are non-directional but they do have an inside/outside. Go look at your rear tires and you'll notice that the tread pattern is a mirror image.

Unidirectional tires? Did not realize that. Do you know what's unique about the construction that makes them unidirectional?
The diff in front and rear is width on SS, right?
It's confusing that TPMS gets swapped around. I asked the guy at my tire store and he said properly inflated tire should not need rotation. Certainly doesn't hurt, but should not be considered mandatory.

As rolnslo said, the PZero's are NOT unidirectional, even though the tread looks like they should be (at least to me).

But I'd be annoyed that:
1) The rotated the tires w/o your authorization
2) That they didn't reset the sensors (cmon, they should have known to do that)

Yeah, there's no directional arrow on the sidewall, only 'outside'. I guess you could flip the tires left and right

The manual however, says no. They say don't rotate staggered wheels and even they were not staggered, not to flip left/right.

P-Zeros are NOT directional. They can be swapped side to side.

I intend to do this in the Spring. After 10,000 miles, it's overdue.

Believe me, it wasn't by choice...another Camaro cut me off suddenly and I had to swerve into a curve.

I agree - the service dealership otherwise was great, but I plan to call them to find out WTF.

Wow, and they still went ahead and did it? Now I just wonder if it's "bad" for the tire, or if tread/grip will suffer because the front tires are being run "backwards" and the rears are being run "forwards".

..

Oh you know what. I just checked, I think they swapped the back tires too. The tires aren't "facing" each other on each side, they are the same tread direction. But, the rear TPMS sensors are not swapped. WTF is going on?

Hmm, I'm over 25k miles without ever having swapped/rotated mine. Even wear all around so I don't see a need to do anything other than leave them alone until I buy replacements in a few months.

There is no "forwards" or "backwards", they are NON-DIRECTIONAL. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not going to damage anything. It may actually be a benefit if the alignment isn't spot on, as it will take care of any fathering that may occur.

The manual does NOT indicate anything about swapping same size tires from side-side. Just says not to rotate different size tires.

If they didn't re-program the sensors- and it says the right tire is low at 25 psi- does that mean that its actually the left tire that is low? If so, that is just not right and downright incompetent.

Yes - as i filled up the front left tire, the front right display on the TPMS went up. But the rears are ok, even though they swapped them too. So for example if I park perpendicular on a hill for a while, I see this:

37 35
35 37

If it doesn't hurt the tires or treadwear, I won't worry about it, and will bring it up to the dealer next time I'm in for whatever. Thanks for the help all!
