Emergency Question!! Buying a car on line
I went on a business trip last week and ended up buying a SUV, one that we have looking for a long time. It is a Toyota 4Runner and I loved it. They brought it to the hotel for me to test drive and it was very nice and the salesman seemed very trust worthy.
Tomorrow morning I need to send the money before shipping, but my question is what is the most sucure way of sending my money. I'm considering money wire, but I'm afraid if the car never shows up I'm left holding the bag. What should I do?!?

Was this not something you worked out with the dealership already? Is it a brand distributor, as in an actual Toyota, Chevrolet, etc. dealership? A reasonably well known chain? Joe Bob's backstreet cars 'n' more?
An escrow is the absolute safest way to go about it, but there's fees and you're likely to eat them if you've not already got that worked into the deal. |

I would have paid for and gotten a receipt when you saw the car. Interesting situation. If It was a large real dealer I would not worry about it. They our bound by laws. As long as you have a receipt the dealer has to deliver the car.

Yes, they appear to be a solid business. "Lexus of Tucson". I just hear horror stories and don't want to be a victim.
I checked BBB and they are approved. I just thought I would check here before wiring money. I'm doing it in the morning.

Have you spoken with the dealership about how to send them the money?

Ask them how they handle a situation like this. I guarantee it's not their first long distance deal.

I'm in Phoenix, but have heard of the dealership and everything seems on the up and up. If they don't have an escrow account, I would send the funds through a secure source and verify who receives the $$. Dealerships are in the business of selling cars, so call and explain your concerns to the sales or finance department.

Thanks, I have no reason to believe they are not honest, but I didn't know if a money order is unsafe.

I would call the dealership and ask to speak to their finance manager to discuss your concerns and confirm where the money is to be wired.

Since it is a dealership, I would not worry too much about it. When I bought my car, I forgot my checkbook and they were about to close. I still left with the car and paid Fremont Chevrolet the following morning.

I would not wire. I would overnight a check and be damn sure the address matches the address from the Toyota dealer listing, etc.
I bought several out-of-state vehicles and I pick up in person and drive it home. How did you find this Toyota? |

They sound legit. I would ask them how they prefer. You should be good

If you have your copy of the sales contract in hand then don't worry about it. If not do not give them a dime until you do.
